Hey everyone! I was just accepted into an LPN program that starts this September. I'm really excited, because I really didn't think i'd get in. But I was wondering if anyone could help me. First, is $7000 a little high for a program? And second, anyone who is an LPN in NYS know the job outlook for LPN's? I know in the hospital I work in now, we don't hire them anymore on the floors except in the Transitional Care Unit, or the FC Centers that operate under my hospitals name. Thanks so much guys! It's really appreciated

I don't know anything about the job outlook in your area, but $7000 for tuition sounds good to me. My tuition is $9300. And that doesn't include anything but tuition costs.

Good luck in your program. I'm sure you will do great.

The tuition sounds reasonable.

LPN's in upstate - and I do mean upstate, north of Albany - NY do fine. It's rural and medically under-served and you can get a med/surg job. You will, however, earn a lot less than the RN's. You will not be able to work home health, hospice, or a unit other than med/surg. You are limited to that and LTC and doctor's offices, pretty much.

The proliferation of the state's use of med techs instead of LPN's has closed a lot of positions to us.

I paid $20,000 in tuition for a private LVN program at a trade school in the Los Angeles area back in 2004, so $7,000 definitely sounds good to me!

$23,000 for Private LPN program here. That includes book, stethescope, scissors, 3 uniforms, phsyical hep series and other vaccines if needed. This was info I got from classmates. I personally did not have to pay because I was under a worksource retrainment program.

I am paying closer to $8,000. Then I have to pay additional for my books and uniforms. I am quite sure I will end up working in LTC as they do not hire LPN's at hospitals here in my part of NYS. But that is my area of interest so it is OK with me!

If you are concerned about the fees, perhaps you can look into scholorships and grants. There are tons of opportunities for people in this state....ask your school to help you look into the ones you qualify for. A lot of people at my school were talking about all sorts of programs that were helping them -even with living expenses.

Or you can take out a loan like me....LOL

I personally think that it depends on want you want? Since u already work in a hospital, you probably have a good idea of that. A lot of people want to become a LPN before getting their RN for experience and to make some $$$$.

Personally I think the cost is low especially for the location. If you can't afford it right now, you can always take out student loans and remember to apply to FAFSA. I understand a lot of people do not want to take out loans, but I would take the opportunity while you have it.

I personally applied to both programs (RN and LPN) and knew I would take whatever I got just because I know I want to a :nurse:! I got accepted in the LPN(more spots). I personally want to continue with my education which is always a choice.

Good luck

Thank you guys so much for your help! You really helped me with the hesitation I had about going for it. I do want to work LTC, so i'm not upset that the hospital I work in doesn't hire LPN's. I did check with the school and they do offer loans and grants to finance the education, and I just checked the Classified ads in my paper and found 15 listings for LPNs, not including the ones I found on area LTC websites. I am so happy to start, I can't even wait until September! Again, thanks everyone!! :redbeathe

Hi and congrats on getting into the program , that is a very good price , seing that am currently an LPN student and paying 22,000 and I live in NYC where the demand for LPN's is crazy, hospitals especially. So I think you should go for it and get that license girl, I wold love if I had got into a 7,000 program but listen as long as we all end of nurses WHO CARES Good luck babe

Wow I wish mine was only $7000!! :)
