Approved but not Accredited?

There is a new nursing school in my city, it is a private school and they said their first batch of lvn's will graduate in february '10..

I talked to the woman on the phone and she said depending on how the class does in their exams will determine if the school gets accredidation and financial aid.

I found the school on my states board of vocational nursing website, its Oikos university in California. The program is 20,800 which is relatively inexpensive compared to other PRIVATE schools in the area (im going the private route because all the public school near me are IMPACTED up to ying yang) like western career college who charges 40,000 something..

would it be safe for me to go to this school since its approved but not yet accredited... I mean its on the list of accredited schools but it has a star by it

http://www.bvnpt.ca.gov/education/sc..._schools.shtml

please give me your opinions!! thanks you!

It is provisionally accepted by the board pending full approval so it should be fine, but if you are still concerned about call the BON they should be able to clear it up for you quickly!

You should be fine. As far as LVN programs are concerned, state approval is far more important than accreditation. Good luck to you!

I did not even need to read your full entry-I just seen the title.
Approved is a dead end.

Approved is basically fake iceing on a cake and its pointless to eat because the espophagus is completely blocked and no medication will make a difference. You will have to re-route & backtrack.

lol I tried to make it simple.

Not only is accreditation important but you also need to find out where they are doing their clinical rotations.

Then before you plop down your money for school you need to find out what the school's NCLEX pass rate is.

The pass rate for the LPN school I went to is close to 100%.

If the school ends up not getting their accredidation, you would still be able to apply by equivalency. The downside to that is that you may not be able to endorse your license into another state if you moved.

I attended an LPN/LVN program that was not accredited, and I have successfully been able to endorse my license into several other states.
