How long did it take to get your first LPN job?

Nurses LPN/LVN

Just wondering how frustrated I should be at this point? Is it normal to not get any bite at all after one or two months?

Specializes in Geriatrics.

I just finished my LPN program, graduation is in 2 weeks, and I had a job offer a month ago. But that's only because I've been working as a CNA at the same facility for 4 1/2 years, and when a position opened up, they offered it to me.

I applied and was hired 1 month before graduation. Worked as a cna until I passed boards. But that was 10 years ago.

It took me two months to find a gig. I networked with instructors and one was able to get me a job! Good luck

I was hired during my clinical rotations actually. It was at an outpatient setting in one of the biggest health care agencies in the US. I was told surprised when the manager was asking for me even after i had finished my rotation there. As soon as i passed my boards the manager actually called me and asked me if i wanted to meet the doctor i was working with. Moral of the story, do your best because people are REALLY watching.

Graduated in June of last year with a 4.0 average, past Nclex-PN in August (2011) and still jobless. Not even one phone call after applying to hundreds of places. I just finished prerequisites to get into a LPN-RN program this fall and I hoping for better results when I get my RN license. I plan to move out of Ohio if I can't find a job after I get my RN license.

where are you from right nosh Havatars

@Zadia

Hillsboro, OH. It doesn't help when there are 5 schools in my area (that I know of) that are pumping out nursing graduates left and right. There aren't many jobs in the rural area I live in and it's not much better in Cincinnati or Columbus. I applied to jobs in LTC, Home health, doctor's offices, clinics, hospitals, prisons, state and county health departments, the va, mollen immun., etc in Cincinnati, Columbus, and Dayton. No luck. I gave up and I'm now working for UPS while going to school.

List of schools:

Southern State, Greak Oaks (Cincinnati State), Ohio University, Adena Paccar Center (Wright State University), and Pickaway Ross

There are a few new job postings in the Lima area but at $15the an hour, prob wouldn't be worth it to move

I am an older mom in Columbus, Ohio, and I'm thinking about going back to school to be a LPN. I already got my STNA certification. I would like to be a RN, but I think I would have to take too many classes and it would take too long.

Does anyone know of any good LPN schools besides Columbus State? Their pat-time program takes over two years to complete. I found two websites about the Columbus School of Practical Nursing and also the ITT Breckenridge School of Nursing...does anyone have any experience with these schools? Also, does anyone know how hard it is to get a LPN job in Columbus, Ohio area? I wanted to work at a hospital but I don't see many openings on the hospital websites. I wanted to work at OSU medical center, but someone in HR told me on the phone that they don't hire LPNs anymore. I woud become a medical assistant, but why go to school for 1 year to get paid $10.00/hour? I'm not sure what to do...

I Just graduated from Hondros in Westerville with my LPN and am continuing on in the RN program, but there are plenty of schools out there. You have Columbus Public nursing school, Fortis (not recommended I went there and left), Lincoln (new school but a coworker of mines teaches there), Chamberlin, etc. I cant think of anymore right off hand but we have tons here in Columbus.

As far as finding a job I had an interview a week before I took the NCLEX and they offered me $18 (just graduated in March) which I thinik is a fair amount but I have 2 class mates who work at LTC facilities who make $22 an hour, so it just takes some looking around but you can find places that offer a good amount!! I've been putting in alot of apps so there are jobs out there.

Most hospitals in Columbus do not hire LPNs to work on the unit mostly in there hospice organizations, I work at Grant as a Tech and will not be able to stay there as a nurse unfortunately, OSU does not hire LPNs, Ohiohealth's hospice, Mount Carmel Hospice and Childrens Hospital does though.

Hope this helps!!

You just have to keep looking. To the person who said they graduated in Hillsboro and cannot find a job, I could give you some direction. I went to Great Oaks and I had a job the week after I passed my boards, some of the other people in my class struggled a little becasue they were very picky. At first you have to take what you can get and get some experience...
