Help!-Question for you

Okay guys I have a question for you: I'm a new grad LPN who received my original license through D.C board of nursing, but currently live and work in in maryland as a CNA in a local hospital. My boss says to me a week after I've passed my boards I can no longer work on the floor as a CNA after receiving my LPN license because it's the state board of nursing law. So I asked her how long do I have until I can no longer work on the floor, because I need time to search for a job, and she says as soon as I've received my license; which is supposed to arrive within 5 days. I was so stunned and afraid that I may not have a job and I have absolutly nothing to fall back on within 5 days. So I called the maryland board of nursing and asked them if it true that I can no longer work as a CNA and that I have a D.C LPN license and is currently applying for endorement, they said it's not true at all, MD has no such law stating that, infact I can work as a CNA for as long as I like with a D.C or Maryland license just as long as I don't work in rotating shifts as a CNA and as a LPN (ex: work 8hrs as a CNA and on the same day work 8 hrs as an LPN) and she says other states may have that law but MD doesn't. I haven't told my boss yet because I don't have anything written down in black and white. Every time she see's me she keeps asking me if I've found a job yet and I tell her "NO" and say to myself " she is REALLY trying to kick me out of here." I even read the maryland NURSE PRACTICE ACT and didn't see anything stating this. I"ve been searching for jobs like crazy and everyone wants at least a years worth of experience. What I'm I gonna do. Any Advice.

Sorry that's happening for you. I dont know if they have a legal leg to stand on or not but i know that happened to my friend. Maybe facilites are able to make their own policies on this.

Well, if MD is an at will state it doesn't matter.

Any chance you can work there as an LPN?

if you feel the boss is trying to give you the boot anyway, i'd confront her(respectfully) with the info the board gave you and let her know it came from the board. put the ball back in her court -- let her get the paper to prove otherwise. if your feelings are right, you've got nothing to lose but your job and that's gonna happen anyway! also, is there anyone over her you could go to? may upset her, but if she wants you out & you want to stay, i'd go over her & find out if it's just her or entire mgmt. that wants to say bye, bye to you.

thanks for the reply. i haven't confronted her yet, but i feel its better to have a piece of paper to back it up. so i'm trying to get something written from the bon to take to her. i'm just so frustrated with the whole situation, and just hope something(a new job) comes up for me soon.

Thanks for the reply. I recently checked to see if it's the facility's policy, but did not find anything pertaining to that.

It's great that you are able to work in MD as a CNA and still have your nursing license. You can't do that in GA, anywhere. As far as jobs go. Have you checked in other places besides the hospital? LTC, Doctor's office, prison's. Good luck with your job search, and CONGRATS on getting your nursing license.:yeah:
