Sign of things to come, saw this in the papers today,
The government's repeated pledges to protect frontline NHS serviceshave been dramatically undermined by a wave of job losses at two
hospitals, with fears that as many as 1,000 posts could disappear.
This makes me really REALLY mad. The government are morons. Do they honestly think that by cutting front line staff and services that people will stop being ill, or that people will stop having accidents?????? Of course not, so who do they think is going to look after these people when they need to go into hospital????? magical pixie nurses?????? It will only end in disaster when someone dies because there wasn't enough staff to safely look after them; this will only endanger patients. The newspapers will have a field day - patient neglected and starved as no-one available to feed frail elderly patients or give them a drink, patients left in soiled beds, waiting lists so long it wil be near on impossible to get seen...oh wait thats what is happening already!!!!!! And when push comes to shove, who gets the blame for all this? not the government, but the exhausted and disillusioned nurses who try their very best on each and every shift to deliver the best care they can, that's who!
Not to mention the numerous studies that have been done that prove there is a direct link between nurse to patient ratio and morbidity/mortality of said patients!
What I don't understand is why there are never cutbacks in Human Resources. I mean, if there are fewer clinical staff being recruited and employed, why do we need them ?!
Not sure about where you work but every department of the hospitals in the area I work have had cuts, including clinical and administrative posts

the Dear Leader ( Bliar) and the Glorious Leader (bottler Broon) are morons, what they did in 13 years of liarbore mis-rule created the unsustainable situation we are in today,
it's the political commissars that suck the funding out of the NHS but management never slim down management they just move people about and make up new jobs about making up new jobs, i forget the exact figures but under the Lairbore regime while numbers of clinicians increased the number and grading of management roles exploded almost exponentially.

will it ? or is this just a fact that the local councils have will and continue to fail in the provision of fit for purpose social care combined with GPs who are only proactive where there are QOF points to be had create a huge burden of inappropriate admissions and bed blocking ?

perhaps if the matrons took off their clippy cloppy shoes and put down their clipboards and actually fulfilled the parts of their roles that they are meant to do and that require Them to be registered this would not be as much of an issue

the blame on Nurses comes from the gutter masquerading as mid market press who have a downer on Nurses thanks to the kind of Rubbish that dear old Clare ' i WAS a Nurse ' Rayner and the like spouted based on clinical experience form 50 years ago, plus the Latter Day Lancelot Spratts who were upset that Nurses Dare question their divine rights as Doctors, because after all 'doctor knows best'.

HR are an essential support service , the cuts in management need to be
'assistant patient services managers' on band 7
'service management assitants' on bands 5 and 6
i.,e. the clipboard wielding political commissars to ensure that Tractor Production is in line with the five year plan comrade ...
Lack of SW is causin delays of 2-3 day from filed section 2 in ppl being assesed, refer any pt nearing but not deemed medically fit and SW closes the case. then we have bed mangers etc saying we need the bed as pt are waiting on ambulances due to bed crissis again. i hear of more of my cohort being affected by ward downsizing shutting

whose bottler broon?
whatever government are in power, the nhs suffers.
The Thatcher government in the 80's damaged the NHS with the "internal market" privatization debacle, where trusts (or health authorities) were in competition with each other to provide services. The damage that was done at that time had a knock on effect on the way the nhs has been run since.
There have been countless studies that prove high mortality/morbidity outcomes of patients results from poor nurse/patient patio - which is common sense, if there are not enough nurses to look after patients then ultimately the patients suffer. Look at the recent Stafford hospital scandal The report said the trust was short of 120 nurses in 2007 to 2008 - about 17 in A&E, 30 in surgery and 77 on medical wards. In 2006 to 2007 the trust had axed 150 posts - most of them nurses - to meet £10million cost-saving targets.
I must agree with you on the Clare Rayner comment though
