Um . . . well, I was doing so well with Induction that I just stayed there. And you know potatoes are the worst carb veggie . . .

    I needed a jump start . . . and I wasn't hungry at all. Until yesterday.

I'll check that book out. Thanks.

I do not want to discourage you, but you may want to check out this website called
atkinsexposed.org. After doing some research, I've found that the BEST way to lose the weight is slow, with a balanced diet, and proper portions. This is why I think that the "weight watchers" approach is the best. When I tried Atkins, I always missed certain food. By following a WW like diet, I can eat ANYTHING that I want. I just have to watch the size of my portions. With Atkins, even by his own admission, if you go off his plan, you will gain weight. So the thought of one day, after I reach my goal, going out to eat with my wife and having what I want just will never happen. However, with my way of eating, I can just do some extra miles on the treadmill and go out that night and eat guilt free. Anyway, I only say all of this because I feel your pain. I want it off, I want that cure, but the answer lies in just living healthy. Diet and exercise really really do work. You can eat what you want. You just have to be sure to "burn it off." I do wish you all the best. Again, I am not trying to discourage you. If you feel that Atkins is for you, I understand. But that website is worth checking out!! Good luck because I care!!

    Sincerely,
    Jay

Staying on induction??? Horrors! Don't do that. End of lecture. LOL

I gained a pound going off the diet for two weeks. I guess I should be happy it was "just" a pound. Actually l.5 lbs. but whose counting.

Thanks for the info on that website - it was very interesting.

Since being in Seattle and walking to work every night and home again every morning, I have lost about 8.5 pounds over 8 weeks. Trying to be better in eating habits and all.

Jay, WW has been the one tried and true diet program that has had good results and lasted the test of time. I do have a criticism of the "eat what you want" philosphy though. An example is my manager who while loosing a lot of weight isn't eating healthy. "Ill eat this cake, and take away from my dinner tonight" kind of eating. So sometimes people manipulate it to actually eat what they want, but it's not really good for long-term healthy eating.

Not that I'm the one to last long term healthy eating either. End of that lecture. LOL

Steph aren't you done with induction yet? You know I hate those low carb diets. I was reading Dr. Don Colbert's book "Get healthy......."
He has one that is, I think, newer, called "the 7 pillars of health". Looks pretty good. Very first of course is water water water. Also lots of emphasis on the dangers of artif. sweetener. Don't remember what all else (only saw the infomercial) but a lot of it is "natural natural natural".

OTOH I have lost 10 lb in 2 mo having potatoes 2-3 x a week, I don't think it is a huge deal - When I was in overeater's anonymous it was ok - it was the sugar/flour that is the WORST worst!

I agree. I do not do WW myself. I just follow along loosely with their "guidelines." The idea is that you don't have that many points to waste on that cake. So, if you want it, you have to earn it with points that you get for exercising. Some people have a problem with restraining themselves or a since of delayed gratification though. I just think that it is good not to deprive yourself of those things that you enjoy. Have a piece of cake if you want every now and then...just don't have a HUGE slice of cake or have a cookie or two, but not a whole bag of cookies. I think that telling people that they can't have this or that only makes one want it more, but if left with the idea that you can have it, but you have to run an extra 3 miles for it, well then you may just say it's not worth it or you may do the 3 miles and get to ENJOY the treat instead of feeling like you let yourself down.

I agree Jay, balance is very necessary. Deprivation diets have never worked well for me.

You guys are right, this is truly a hard time of year, all sorts of home-made goodies and candy, yikes! Well, I have been bad with the chocolate long enough, so I resolve to stay away from chocolate now!

Sorry I have been missing again, I have been working on a slow and agonizing death by care plans, LOL! But, I have finally beat the monster and submitted it, hopefully in some type of organized manner that my teacher will appreciate, hehe!

Clinicals were a blast as always! I love it, love it, love it!!! I can't wait until I am a nurse and get to go off to that job every day, WooHoo!!! I just keep telling myself . . . 10 more months, 10 more months, 10 more months!!! I can do this! I am still doing great grade-wise, but wow I am exhausted, hehe, as I know all of you understand and can relate to. Thank goodness for friends!

Ok y'all, have a happy, healthy day! I'm off to my kiddos and I'm putting all of my books up for the evening.
