Army Nurse Corps FY2014

Hello,

I haven't seen any activity regarding the Army Nurse Corps. There is an impressive amount of AF/Navy posts which is incredible. I heard from a few recruiters that there are a very small amount of positions in Critical Care. I was told there were many Med-Surg and other specialties available however.

I am applying for Active Duty Critical Care ER for 2014. My application was sent to the board 10/31 and I am supposed to hear back the first week of December. So far I haven't been able to find much of any information on the internet about the program.

Is there anyone else out there? :)

Welcome to the forum, and allnurses! The Army is still overstrength, so you might not see a lot of action here -- even when I was selected in December 2010, there were only like 50-something direct commissions selected from a much larger pool of applicants, and it's been trending downward ever since.

Good luck and let us know what you hear! How many years of critical care experience do you have?

Thanks for the warm welcome! I hear this year there are only 10 spots available for both ICU and ER combined. I definately think it is going to be a long shot, however my recruiter is fairly confident from what her and her higher ups tell her.

I have a year and a half of ER experience with two years of PCU. I know I am light on the experience but I tried to make it up with certifications as I have my CEN and CCRN. I am also currently an ER traveler.

I'm not sure if the overall pool of applicants dropped this year however since in September I believe they took away all incentives for new nurses. No sign on bonus or tuition reimbursements.

Whoever told you there were a plethora of Med-Surg spots wasn't telling the truth, there are almost none and a lot of ROTC grads were forced reserves this year which usually NEVER happens. As for other specialties, if you mean CRNA or OB then yes I could believe that but not med surg.

With your experience you could probably get the identifier if you have enough hours but as you said even ICU/ER spots are dwindling. Unfortunately this is a bad time to get into the Army...

Good Luck

10 is about the right number for all 66H's (med surg) along with 66HM5 (er) & 66H8A (icu) direct commissions. This does not include ROTC & ANCP.

Hey all,

This will be my second year going to board. I was OML for 8a in FY2013. Spoke to the recruiter and was told the army did not need more 66hs, bit they did need CRNAs. Applied to NEU-USAGPAN, went to Ft.Bragg for the 3day interview and was accepted to USAGPAN for FY2014. Talked to the recruiter, boards for ANC met last week and I pray to God my name was on the selection list. I am ready and I am motivated and I will never give up.

Good luck to you Jdub and the others applying this year. I hope to meet all of you in BOLC.

Heck yeah Ajax, good luck man. Hows that baby?

This might be slightly off topic but has the Army Nurse Candidate Program been canceled? Last time I checked the army website it still had it as an option but I've heard it is no longer available :( At least there is still the Navy!

He is great! Loves his Mama and Dada, an absolute joy, actually today is his first birthday.

Still waiting to hear from the board, but my recruiter says it has good shot at being god news since I was OML and accepted to USAGPAN. Additionally he told me that CRNAs and SRNA. Students mission critical for this FY. So hopefully we'll have some good news soon !

How is your wife doing? Is she liking army nursing so far?

Probably not exactly cancelled, but there probably isn't a mission to recruit for it right now. Same difference in the end, though -- not a lot of opportunity. Best of luck!
