First and only choice would be L & D for sure! I loved it. I also can say that was the only clinical that I left the hospital excited and with a smile on my face for teh rest of the day!

I am scared I will get payback during L&D. With my second, I was 7cm dilated, contractions like 1min apart (they were no joke!!) and needed to go pee. Of course, all that I had in my room was a student nurse. She was helping me to the bathroom, and all I felt was tons of pressure like he was coming out. I told her about this. Well she freaked out and made go back to bed without peeing. I think she was pretty terrified he was gonna flop out onto the floor. Poor thing, I didn't try to frighten her. I'm sure I'll have some similar to those happen to me just because of that. And yes, I'm sure I will be a little freaked. But I can't wait to see squishy newborns born from a different perspective!

Wow there's alot of L&D! I on the other hand totally hated that rotation. I like more action and to be constantly running around, with little breaks. Makes time go faster, and it's a good weight loss strategy! Lol. I'm thinking along the lines of OR/ER/TELE/TRAVELING NURSE. Eventually I will get my MSN. But I'm pretty flexible. Here in Cali I'll be happy to get any job!

my dream is peds, night shifts. i only felt at home during my peds rotation and i did peds nights for my capstone course. I can't see myself working any place else long term. i luv kids, any age, size, gender, teens too. volunteered with them in HS, worked with them in the summer. i'm that relative who takes all the babies she can get at family get-togethers's :) down the road i would consider going for a ma in ed. i've always like teaching but i want to work with kiddies first

I am lucky. I am living my dream nursing career. i am full time rapid response RN. I have tremoundous autonomy, have the schedual I want, have good benifits, make well over $100K/year without OT. I used to think my dream was to do transport (air and or ground). Been there, done that. I quickly realized how limiting that roll was for me. Now I pretty much do the same thing except with a whole hospital full of resorses at my disposal.

My dream nursing career would be a labor and delivery nurse. I am done having kids, but I still am drawn to it. Have always felt drawn towards something to do with pregnancy and just about everything that goes along with it.

That is exactly how I feel. Ever since I had my second child I've wanted to do L&D. I love the process of pregnancy and childbirth. I'm not having any more children so I want to be there to assist others while they have theirs. And I hope to be as great and helpful as the nurses I had. I'll never forget them. They inspired me.

A LTC center that paid well, where we had the tools we needed to do the job, weren't overworked, and where resident family members weren't complete jerks.

I'm still not really sure. I think I'd like to start ICU or mes-surg to get some experience...then I just want to see where the wind takes me. I came to nursing with the purpose of becoming an NP, but who knows. I can't imagine I'll want to do bedside permanently, that's for sure.

My ultimate dream is to become a nurse-midwife and work at a birth center. But since I'm only just about to start my junior year, I have a long way to go haha. I'm hoping to become a certified doula this winter, in the meantime.

And since I obviously can't become a CNM right after I graduate, I would love to work on a labor and delivery floor, or even as an RN in a birth center, although I don't know if birth centers would want to hire a fresh outta school nurse

My ultimate dream is to become a CNM. However, that being said, I am open to wherever God leads. I might find that I love something else once I get to clinicals, and also once I graduate I will have to take what I get to earn experience as well and I am determined to try and love NURSING, no matter what the area I am working in. No offense to anybody, but I don't want to say "I don't want to work with the elderly" or "I don't want to work with kids" because to me it's all experience and many conditions don't care if the patient is young or old! My dream is to be A NURSE.. to help people.. and I want to be the best nurse I can be, no matter where I am placed. :)

I had a similar situation with my first birth (not mine, my patients:) I was suprised though, I handled it well. I got her calm and went and got the nurse who didn't believe me and begrudgenly eyes rolling and everything back to the pt.'s rm and checked her and surprise surprise the baby was born a few minutes later. I got to be even more involved in the second birth I got to assist. It was truly amazing!

Haha! Poor nurse. No worries...I actually did partially have my daughter in the hospital bathroom...

Delivering a baby and needing to pee feel oddly similar lol. I blame the nurses for not ever checking me to see how far along I was!

Specializes in Emergency Room.

My goral for the moment is to work as an Emergency Room nurse. I work in an ER as a technician but would also like to work at a Trauma Center. I have done some International medical trips with Global Medical Brigades and would like to do that in the future and am even considering Nurse practitioner or CRNA but I need to graduate nursing school first!
