What are the essential items that you carry in your scrub pockets? How many pockets do you like and where do you keep everything so you can always find what you need?

:coollook:

I have to ask...what's the hammer for??

Reflexes?

Reflexes?

Ahhhh, my brain so did not go in that direction LOL!! All I could think was something ortho

If it's my day to give meds during clinical, I stuff every thing imaginable in my pockets, including several saline flushes, alcohol pads and assorted caps, tape and stickers for iv tubing. Then there is my memo pad, pen light, scissors, three pens, a dry erase marker, a sharpie, my stethoscope and a pulse ox. I usually have my phone in my pocket as well. I always wear a scrub jacket so I have extra pockets, but it does get to be slightly ridiculous at times.

Pen, paper, alcohol preps in my bottom left shirt pocket. I hate the darn stethoscope; it is supposed to be in my pocket but I throw it over my shoulder. That's usually all I carry- our clinical instructors don't like us to carry a bunch of stuff from room to room- we open new sterile scissors when we need to do dressing changes, so even though we were forced to buy them, they were a waste of money.

Yup! I only use my scissors to open packaging that for whatever reason won't open on its own/didn't come with a starting perforation. I actually did use them once for a g-tube dressing change in a facility that didn't have its own sterile scissors but other than that I can't really expect to use them like they're intended to be used.

That said, I have my brain book in my right front pocket, my pocket protector in my left with various writing implements and my pen light in front of my two bandage scissors and a as-yet-to-be-used kelly clamp, alcohol prep pads everywhere and my phone, keys and chapstick in my right pocket. I let my stethoscope bell dangle in my left pocket, too, since I hate having it slung around my neck. It always feels like it's going to fall off.

Not a student, but I always have at least one pen, alcohol wipes, IV catheters (in 3 different sizes, 22, 20, and 18 gauge), and flushes. My wallet and cell phone are always in my pants pockets
