Underage drinking question? please help

OK, so first off, I am going into my second semester of my adn program and I am 19 years old. I was at a party last night with my friend and there were about 70-80 people there.

A girl made me a drink and I decided to drink it. It was kind of strong but I drank it anyway.

There was a lot of marijuana so we decided to leave but our truck was boxed in by other vehicles. I told my friend to drive my truck and he agreed, but out of habit I got in the drivers seat. So we are waiting for some of the cars to leave so we can get out and then the cops show up.

One cop came up and said they were going to breathalyze everyone driving and just to sit tight. Then another cop came and asked me what I had to drink and I told him a cup of grape juice with a small amount of vodka a few hours ago.

He then told me he was going to breathalyze me and asked what my name was, how old I was, and who my parents were. I didn't see him write anything down, but it was dark so I don't really know what he did.

I blew a 0.02 and he told me I could go. He didn't breathalyze my friend. I AM INCREDIBLY PARANOID THAT I AM GOING TO GET AN UNDERAGE DRINKING TICKET IN THE MAIL.

I live in Mississippi and this is my first run in with law enforcement beside getting a ticket for running a stop sign. I personally think the officers were more concerned with what was going on inside than with me. I mentioned something about the marijuana to one cop and he just walked inside.

My question to anyone who has any knowledge about legal issues is, can I get a ticket in the mail?

Keep in mind that I was in my truck with tag number visible ... and if I do how will this affect my status in school and taking my boards? I live in Mississippi. Any input is appreciated, but I really don't need a lecture about this incident. I am a good kid, I never go anywhere or do anything besides study.

Thank you all.

No, they cannot send you a ticket in the mail, you would have to be cited on the spot. You are very fortunate that the police let you go without a ticket as having any alcohol in your system is illegal since you are under the legal drinking age.

you got nothing to worry about. just relax it is nothing serious.

I just googled some things about getting underage citations in the mail and it has happened to some people.

This is untrue (based on the paragraph which precedes it), so I wonder about the remainder of the story. And why did you feel compelled to mention the marijuana inside the house? Just curious.

She mentioned the marijuana because that was what propelled her to leave the party.

I don't think you have anything to worry about with this situation--I believe the officer would have cited you on the spot. Just let it serve as a reminder to be more careful in the future--you wouldn't want to jeopardize your education or future career for something like this.

Thanks so much for the reply, but please take your ignorance somewhere else.

Who has ignorance? You're the one sitting in the driver's seat after drinking.

No, actually he/she mentioned the marijuana to the police to deflect attention from him/herself.

Two things:

1. Use of the quote feature makes it easier to tell who you are calling names (very mature response, by the way).

2. While this is a public forum, it isn't Facebook. When you throw something out there like you did, you run the risk of having people who are actually professional nurses take you to task for things you say. Calling people names isn't going to win you any friends. Besides, it's a violation of the TOS.

Not a very smart statement little girl! You WILL NOT make it through school with that attitude!

Ouch! Sometimes I wonder why people throw themselves under the bus in their threads on public forums. Regardless of what anyone says to you, you already know what you did was illegal. If you did end up with a citation or spent the night in jail or whatever, you brought it upon yourself.

Learn from your mistakes and move on. Don't get mad at all of us for telling you what you already know. And please don't ever be the irresponsible, immature and heartless scum that gets behind the wheel while intoxicated. You may just end the life of an innocent pedestrian whose family will never see again because of your choices.

I would say don't drink all together and save your liver, but that's probably useless. So, I will say don't drink and drive. If your future as a nurse is important enough then you will know to be on the right side of the law.
