...So working & going to NS is out of the quest?

I work three 12-hour shifts as CNA at a hospital. I applied to NS and I'm still wondering if I'll be able to keep my job once I start nursing school. The hospital will reimburse for every class/program we take.

I work in extremely busy units, and at the end of the shift my feet are aching. Will I make it through nursing school and working?

A shift or TWO? Working one day a week isn't a job, lol. It's a hobby.

The nursing program has clinicals in our hospital, I'm often showing the students/instructors how to use our equipment.

I don't know if working there would be a problem with the scope of practice. I'm a CNA there and I don't if coming back on my days off as a student.. and doing assessments, med administration..and other assignments as a student would be a problem.

I'm worried now!

At my school the rule is you can do clinicals at the hospital you work at, but not on the unit you are employed on...due to conflict of interest type stuff.

The OP stated that she didn't need to work, so school should be the full time job....and working is a hobby.

Working full time while in a nursing program because you have to is a reality for many folks.....but, why exhaust yourself to that extent if you don't need to? Put the time, energy & attention in to school. You'll be working for the rest of your life....this is a point in your life where your main job is learning.

Just responding to your post....didn't know you were kidding, but wasn't upset or anything...just answered.

Specializes in Peds; Cardiac, NICU, PACU.

I am in the same type of situation...I am in my 2nd semester and have now decided to look for a part time or PRN job to get my foot in the door. Fortunately I dont have to work but I dont want to still be looking for a job years after I graduate!:uhoh3: My grades have been good so far and I do plan to maintain them.

LOL. Ok. Thanks. Some posters seem kind of edgey at times. Well, I'll leave you with it I guess. ;)

My unit is Joint and Spine Surgery, but I frequently float to Tele and Med Surg. I knew if would be a conflic of interest. sigh!!:uhoh3:

Anything can be done but I don't think working 3 12h shifts in nursing school is wise unless you absolutely have to.

You have to think; you will have lecture, clinical, study time, extra work time for care plans/papers/ect, AND 3 12's a week. If you think you can handle it than go for it but I think it is very risky.

I personally work 1-2 12's a week depending on my school schedule and some weeks I don't work at all... but I am contingent.

I'm for sure cutting to two 12-hours. There's no way, I'll be able to keep the three. I'm beat at the end of every shift. Being that exhusted affects my memory, concetration and emotional state.

If you dont have to work I wouldnt.

At my school you arent allowed to work more than 20 hrs a week and they frown on THAT.

I was told to look at nursing school as a full time job..so if you are doing NS AND a regular full time job...wow...kudos to those that can do it.

First semester I worked 20-25 hours a week, but this semester I can barely manage 8 hours a week. I am BSN full time. Can't image working FT in my program but I'm sure there's people out there that do it.
