so embarrassed...

My professors are upset with me. I have had 3 UTI's this semester and made several trips to the bathroom, my blood sugar is no longer under control(it keeps dropping) and everyone is mad at me. I feel utterly depressed to be honest. My doctors(endocrinologist and ob-gyn) are also mad at me. The last antibiotic made me have 12 rounds of diarrhea and the professor told me I was making too many trips to the bathroom(the alternative was pooping myself or wearing a depend) I was there and trying my best. I have class 4 days a week, work 4-5 days a week, and my husband has been severely ill.

My grades are going to be dinged for all my bathroom trips and when I go to the doctor I get a long angry lecture about going to the bathroom when I need to go....The professors talk for 2-4 hours without breaks. The other classmates outvote me on taking bathroom breaks every single time. We are not allowed to eat in class, nor drink, nor get up to go to the bathroom without permission. One professor was mad at me for going but my period started and it had been 3.5 hours since the last break......when I am at home my husband gets angry at me if I tell him I need to go to the bathroom and will argue with me about it "you said you were going to study we've been studying for 2 hours and now you are trying to just get out of studying" ....I unfortunately need to go every 3 hours or so and I need to eat a snack once every three hours and a meal every 6-8 hours. Should I get a doctor's note about this? At work I can go when I need to but often don't get a chance to eat and my blood sugar plummets. I am super embarrassed but occasionally I've had some urine dribble out but this is only after not going for 6-8 hours and asking repeatedly to go......I guess I need to talk to the doctor about this.....

Yes, get a doctor's note for everything you need an accommodation; consider this a given whenever you miss anything or need any type of accommodations (no matter how small). Do find out why you are getting frequent UTI's. Do research into what you might be able to change nutritionally to help.

For your doctors, if you think they are mad at you, directly ask them if they are mad at you, and what you can do to change them being mad at you.

I'm sorry about your situation, and your husband being ill. Don't give up.

I am not going to the bathroom frequently enough, getting enough to drink, or eating frequently enough. I am trying to abide by all the rules but I am about ready to throw in the towel. I have signed up for a class online as sterile technician. The bottom line the doctors are mad at me because I should be eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom more and I know that. However the entire class votes to skip breaks and majority wins. The profs say I am in a bad mood for going out of class during class time after the vote and that I should be more agreeable and suck it up majority wins. I have a hard time not going to the bathroom for 6 hours and my blood sugar is in the low 60s after no snacks or meals for over 6 hours.

You definitely need to talk to your doctor and get a doctor's note. You shouldn't be getting dinged on your grade for something you can't control. I would also suggest taking a probiotic at least two hours after your antibiotics. It may help with the diarrhea.

actually culturelle was what helped the most, that and a whole lot of fluid and me eating salt...I should have gone to the hospital for rehydration...but I had class.

You may find that a pill form will help you even more. I'm talking like 30 Billion CFU or more. Try Walmart.

Have you shared any of this information with the teachers in question? None of them have a crystal ball, so unless you tell them what's happening with you they will have no idea. Likewise with your fellow students. I know it may be embarrassing, but you don't need to share any details... Just something like "I'm sorry to appear so disruptive, but I am dealing with a physical issue right now which means that I have to _____".

Are you in Jr High? Truly, every part of your post makes me believe that you are. The world is not "mad" at you over bathroom breaks. I doubt your providers are "mad" at you. If you have to go, you have to go and it is clearly affecting your every day life.

Medical advice is against TOS

Am I the only one who finds it extremely odd that you are not allowed to eat, drink, or use the restroom during a 3-4 hour lecture? That's extremely unrealistic. I mean, you can't even drink water? I've eaten full meals during long lectures! And go thru several water bottles. I purposely sit near the door because I have to pee at least every 90 minutes. These are normal bodily functions. In nursing school, of all places, you'd think they would understand. And not a single other classmate has an issue? So strange.

The state of your bowel, bladder, and uterus are not the concern of your professors. You're an adult for crying out loud, and one training to become a professional. You don't need their permission. Of course you are responsible for any information you missed, but again...you are an adult.

Since they believe they have that authority, yes I would involve your provider, nursing dept administration, and also the student health department. Also consider the disabilities office, since you have medical conditions that mean snacks, hydration, and BR breaks are necessary -- and you are being penalized for it. I'm sure the nursing dept doesn't want legal trouble over this. :whistling:

I have a hunch your provider is not angry at you per se, but frustrated that your disregard of his advice (coerced disregard in your case) is negatively affecting your health.

As for your husband...he's being something that I can't say without violating TOS. Your bladder, bowel, and uterine functions aren't his concern either. Well I mean he should be concerned for your health, but this berating you for using the **** BR is unacceptable on so many levels. I know that's woman-to-woman advice rather than nursing advice, but it needed to be said.

Here's a ((((hug))))

I would get a doctor's note, you need to take care of yourself. Don't worry about whether or not people are mad at you. Your providers are probably more frustrated then mad because they know what your body go through if you don't take care of your diabetes and none of it is good. I understand how frustrating it is when class votes to skip a meal, personally I still make sure I get a meal in even if it means missing some class time. I'm not learning anything if all I can think about is how hungry I am or if I need to pee. Try to sit near a door, if you don't already, so that you are disrupting the class as little as possible, but there is nothing unusual about needed to use a bathroom every 2 to 3 hours, I'm not sure why your teacher would be acting like it is. Maybe you need to go over their head.
