so embarrassed...

My professors are upset with me. I have had 3 UTI's this semester and made several trips to the bathroom, my blood sugar is no longer under control(it keeps dropping) and everyone is mad at me. I feel utterly depressed to be honest. My doctors(endocrinologist and ob-gyn) are also mad at me. The last antibiotic made me have 12 rounds of diarrhea and the professor told me I was making too many trips to the bathroom(the alternative was pooping myself or wearing a depend) I was there and trying my best. I have class 4 days a week, work 4-5 days a week, and my husband has been severely ill.

My grades are going to be dinged for all my bathroom trips and when I go to the doctor I get a long angry lecture about going to the bathroom when I need to go....The professors talk for 2-4 hours without breaks. The other classmates outvote me on taking bathroom breaks every single time. We are not allowed to eat in class, nor drink, nor get up to go to the bathroom without permission. One professor was mad at me for going but my period started and it had been 3.5 hours since the last break......when I am at home my husband gets angry at me if I tell him I need to go to the bathroom and will argue with me about it "you said you were going to study we've been studying for 2 hours and now you are trying to just get out of studying" ....I unfortunately need to go every 3 hours or so and I need to eat a snack once every three hours and a meal every 6-8 hours. Should I get a doctor's note about this? At work I can go when I need to but often don't get a chance to eat and my blood sugar plummets. I am super embarrassed but occasionally I've had some urine dribble out but this is only after not going for 6-8 hours and asking repeatedly to go......I guess I need to talk to the doctor about this.....

Am I the only one who finds it extremely odd that you are not allowed to eat, drink, or use the restroom during a 3-4 hour lecture? That's extremely unrealistic. I mean, you can't even drink water? I've eaten full meals during long lectures! And go thru several water bottles. I purposely sit near the door because I have to pee at least every 90 minutes. These are normal bodily functions. In nursing school, of all places, you'd think they would understand. And not a single other classmate has an issue? So strange.

I have several professors who do not allow for any eating or drinking in class. I've had several professors skip breaks as well for lecture. It just depends on the professor and the culture of the school.

3-4 hour lectures with no breaks (snack/bathroom or otherwise) is extremely unrealistic and bordering on sadistic. I ate/drank and went to the bathroom on average twice a lecture, so I sat closer to the back as to not be disruptive.

I don't think I saw anybody mention it, perhaps because it should go without saying, but...

Have you spoken to your teachers about this? You don't need to provide any details but explain your needs and act accordingly.

If it's really a big issue, go to the disability office at your school and I assure you, accommodations will be made.

Hello!

You didn't say what you are studying - but if its healthcare, your school has a huge problem. Your instructors are allowing the ,"group mentality" in this situation, and frankly, it's discriminatory. I would go into the administration office, and have your doctor's paperwork in hand. Next, I would inform the most high up person that you can think of that YOU want a meeting with ALL your instructors. Ask them in person how they would feel if YOU allowed the students to berate them for taking breaks. Everyone needs to be treated with respect, and they are not treating you in this manner. Offer to pull out completely, and call the Agency for Healthcare Administration in your state.

Incidentally, if you are not in the healthcare field - it's still discrimination!

Something is fishy.
