Are there any online schools that don't make you take a dosage test? When you take the required math classes that's it and your over, no extra tests or anything!? I'm sure the community colleges require it though.

There are no online entry level nursing schools, only online RN-BSN schools. ALL nursing schools require some form of dosage tests (mine required one each semester. The pass level increased from 80% for the first semester to 100% for the final semester).

It's not just colleges that require it. Hospitals require it too. I am a 4th semester student and applying for jobs. They made me take a dosage calc test and achieve 100% on it in order to interview. Since I have been taking them in school every semester, it was no big deal. You HAVE to be competent at dosages in order to be a nurse. It would be unsafe for your patients otherwise. And, honestly, once you know how to do it, it's not hard. It's basic math.

True. I had one when I started my job.

You should welcome the opportunity to become proficient at calculating dosages. After all, you wouldn't want to make a medication error, right? In the real world, making mistakes in your math when calculating the dose of a medication to give to a living, breathing human being would be completely unacceptable EVER.

In the real world, anything less than perfect math when calculating the dose of a medication you will be giving to a vulnerable person would be completely unacceptable.

My facility requires annual competencies and med math is included. There's no way around it and there shouldn't be.

Why would a school not require you learn to do dosage calculations? It's sort of important...

That escalated quickly. Good to know that we're all on the same patient safety page.

Honestly, I would be very wary of any nursing school that did not require their students to pass a dosage calculation test.
You may or may not have to take a basic math class along with the nursing program. That depends on your school's requirements.

College Algebra was much more difficult and time-consuming than dose calculation math. I agree with everyone who posted previously. Dose calculation math is an absolute must to master. All I can suggest to the OP is practice makes perfect. I always looked forward to dose calc questions in nursing school because I knew I would always get them right. Too bad the NCLEX didn't have any dose calc for me when I took it.
