Must Have Nursing Books

I'm a huge fan of Lippincott's Illustrated Review of Pharmacology I'm not much of a fan of the "made incredibly easy" books too many cutesy drawings, not enough hard information.

I like Mosby's Pharmacology Memory Notecards. They have "cartoons" and mnemonics to help you remember and understand the drugs, but they also give you the "hard" information too.

I love the ridiculously easy series. I don't rely on them for the bulk of my learning, but they augment the information from the texts in a great way. Definitely recommend. Good luck!

I have used the Pearson Review and Rationale books. They seem to have one for each subject! Also, a comprehensive NCLEX study guide is helpful. You may not have covered a lot of the material, especially if you are just starting NS but it is helpful so that you can get used to the style of questions.

Pretty much any NCLEX book with rationales. I also like the Success! series. They have books in different areas like Success! Fundamentals and Sucess! Med-Surg.

If you don't have the NANDA-I 2012-2014 (current edition) you do not have THE authoritative reference for nursing diagnoses, without which there are no nursing plans of care, without which there is no critical thinking, without which there is no NCLEX passing. It's not a thick tome, it's a paperback about an inch thick, free two-day shipping for students from Amazon. You will have such a leg up on your classmates when you have and use this reference book. :twocents:

I used the Saunders Comprehensive NCLEX Review Book as well as the Prentice Hall Reviews & Rationales: Medical-Surgical Nursing (2nd ed). Both of these books helped me focus in on important material after reading in my regular textbook. Definitely my must haves!

Thanks for all of the great suggestions!! For starters, I just purchased the Saunders Comprehensive Review book and the NANDA book. GrnTea this was definitely on my list because I have seen you recommend this book in other post before. This would have surely came in handy in my first semester!

The various books in the Nursing Demystified series. The Med-Surg one is a major time and headache saver.
