How's Nursing School Going So Far?

Well it's been about four weeks since I started nursing school. So far we have learned the basics;Bedmaking, Bedbaths, ROM Exercises, Dry to Dry and Dry to Wet Sterile Dressing Change, and Vital Signs. We've learned the Nursing Process, Therapeutic Communication, the History of Nursing and how to do Pain assessments. We had our first exam last week and all but one person in our study group passed. (Pass rate on exams is 75%) We've all rallied behind her to try and get her grade up on the next exam. All in all..so far so good. It's not at all what I expected. So far our instructors have been extremely nice and supportive. We have one really strict one but she even manages a smile here and there. The reading assignments are killer but so far I've been able to keep up. It kills me to hear about someone not reading the textbooks but making an A on the exam. :) Must be nice not to have to read 5 chapters a night. We start clinicals Oct 16 and I've already got butterflies in my stomache. I'm still excited about becoming a nurse even though it's going to be a lot of hard work. I can't wait to get these next 3 semesters over with!!!! How is nursing school going for you?

I'm 3 weeks into school. WE have learned about the same that you have with the exception of bed making, ROM. WE have out 1st exam in about 2 weeks. I am having a problem with vitals. I know that when you hear the lub dub sound you count it as one, but it goes to quick and I lose my count. Any suggestions?? :uhoh3:

I'm in my 4th week also. First exam barely last week, eh? Wow. We got the exam ball rolling on the 4th day of class...blech! Other than that...we have done the same things. The subjects that are pretty intense at the moment are pharmocology, A&P, microbiology...Nursing fundamentals isn't that bad. Pretty interesting. We have already started practicing our IM injections, and sub-Q injections. lol, I love it. My instructor says I'm not "sticking" the needle hard enough. Says patients are going to think I'm killing them with my soft stick. Our clinicals don't start until November, but we do have some different "field trips" planned. So far, I am enjoying it. I had my first breakdown on the 2nd week of school. I blubbered like a baby in the parking lot. Now, I think it's pretty funny. I am sure my next one is right around the corner....I can feel it. I am tired, and I feel like I can't absorb anymore info., but I am ready for more. I go to school everyday anticipating what's next on the menu:) Hope everyone else is doing great!

4th week of school for me. I am already starting 3rd week of clinicals. So far we have done, head to toe assessment, foleys cath, wet to dry dressing, ROM, Vitals, Subq and Im injections, communication, pt transfer, and bed making. In clinical I got to do finger sticks, and yesterday we changed and flushed a catheter! Very exciting.... But the best part comes when we leave LTC for the hospital on the 21st of Sept.!!!

4th week here for me...it's going good. We've learned basically all the stuff that most everyone else has. We started clinicals today and they went very well. We just helped with AM and basic pt. care..bed baths, vital signs, turning, etc. The reading is killing me and we have at least one exam per day...most of the time more than one. It's catching up with me and lately i've been finding myself saying "but i can study one more hour" when I lay down at night to go to sleep. sad huh?

I'm loving it! We only have 2 more exams in A&P before we move on to Nursing Fundamentals and skill labs! I can't wait. I just finished with a Nutrition project that went very well. Yesterday, my partners and I created a visual aid and a report on the small intestine for A Walk Through The Gut, which we will present next week! Now that's my idea of fun! :chuckle We will start clinicals in January. I'm a part time student so we take this a bit more slowly than the rest of you all! I'm going to be super jealous (yet happy for you) when you all get pinned in a year and I've still got a year to go! :p

Have you tried tapping your foot gently after each lub dubb and couting them that way? It helps me..hope it helps you.

Fourth week into nsg school. It's great...as far as school goes. I have four classes (Health Assessment, Pharmacology, Nursing Process, and Dimensions of Nursing). I also have a Health Assessment lab. Right now we have "clinicals" in the lab upstairs. We are learning to do things on the dummies that aren't ideal to learn on a real person like catherization and starting IV's. Our real clinicals start in November. Oh, we have one test every week on Friday. I think I'm finally getting into the swing of things and how things go in nsg school. I just got through taking my first test in H. Assessment. I think I did grrrrreat! We'll see.

Let's see...this is the third week of the LPN to ADN program. Just today we did our pharmacology test (that we had to make a 90 to pass), IV practicum and IV med administration practicum. Yummy! Talk about pressure. :chuckle

going ok

had to have cna skills done before nursing so we dug right into fundamentals of nursing we have had 3 test so far (very different that what i am used to but i am doing ok) we start clinicals the 21st and we have a test every monday since the 2nd week of school and through the end of september then we have 2 in october 1 in novemeber and 1 in december then the final. Oh we also have midterm its the last week of september. I am having to read about 10 chapters a week for the test the following week and we have nutrtion once a week and pharmacology on fridays (each having a few chapters on their own) but its going good just having to multi-task and juggle all these with anatomy and physiology on top of them..

I'll manage though b/c i want to be a nurse more than anything and we'll do anythign to get there.

GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!! Its kewl to hear about how different all of our programs are. I thought our curriculum was tough..now I find out it's nowhere near as hard as some of yours.....Goodluck everyone and Congradulations on starting your new career.

I absolutely am in love with it!!!!

i just finished my 3rd week of classes and 2nd week of clinical.

the first week was a whirlwind.....but now that i've got my routine down, it's a breeze!

i've aced my first nursing exam, and my first A and P quiz. unlike my past college experience with psych as a major, this stuff is just "coming" to me. i actually enjoy going to class!

i only wish i had chosen nursing sooner!

i've only heard of us losing one classmate so far. a couple of people were freaking out this week because they had to re-do a nursing skills validation.

i can't believe that i'm already in the 4th week! it's going by so fast....

god, i hope this buzz doesn't wear off ! lol
