How's Nursing School Going So Far?

Well it's been about four weeks since I started nursing school. So far we have learned the basics;Bedmaking, Bedbaths, ROM Exercises, Dry to Dry and Dry to Wet Sterile Dressing Change, and Vital Signs. We've learned the Nursing Process, Therapeutic Communication, the History of Nursing and how to do Pain assessments. We had our first exam last week and all but one person in our study group passed. (Pass rate on exams is 75%) We've all rallied behind her to try and get her grade up on the next exam. All in all..so far so good. It's not at all what I expected. So far our instructors have been extremely nice and supportive. We have one really strict one but she even manages a smile here and there. The reading assignments are killer but so far I've been able to keep up. It kills me to hear about someone not reading the textbooks but making an A on the exam. :) Must be nice not to have to read 5 chapters a night. We start clinicals Oct 16 and I've already got butterflies in my stomache. I'm still excited about becoming a nurse even though it's going to be a lot of hard work. I can't wait to get these next 3 semesters over with!!!! How is nursing school going for you?

OMG I am so tired! I like the clinical part but sometimes it's alot. I mean I work full time as well as school full time so the clinical thing reminds of having a second job. Theory is ok but 2 hours is a long time and it starts to put me to sleep. We have been in class a month and boy has it been busy! I am always studying every minute I am at work and home. We have a quiz every Thursday. I failed the 1st one passed the last 2 with b's and I am fairly sure I failed the last one I took. It's alot of stuff to know. My quizes are 20 questions and our lectures are usually over 2 chapters! Its hard to study when there are only 10 questions fom each chapter. I spent to much studying on the flow rates for the breathing masks and it wasn't even on my quiz! Oh well  at least they average out the quizes for the semster. Hope everyone else is doing good too!

I love school sooo much. We are in our fourth week and we have a Pharm test this Thurs. We took our first "big" test Monday. I got a "C". Only one girl in our study group failed. I gave my boss a two week notice. I don't need the extra stress right now. So far, we've learned infection control and prevention, bedmaking, bedbaths, vital signs, positioning/transferring patients, human needs, history, community based health care facilities and we are beginning immobility, assessment, and elimination.

LOVING school! Week one was TOUGH! Couldn't make sense of the course load because it was HUGE! Also, getting used to the stress of 2-3 tests a week, clinical, and checkoffs-oh and 6 hrs of lecture, kinda put me over the edge! :imbar

BUT, I'm in full swing now-week four. This week I have a metrology test, theory exam, lab quiz, and write ups for clinical which is friday from 0645 to 1645-should be crazy! I feel so good about accomplishing math stuff! It was my greatest fear but I have worked my tail off studying and now its actually doable and KIND OF fun.

I dont know, but school is a lot more enjoyable than I anticipated. Of course, the horror stories of next semester are already rolling in from the sophmores! :chuckle

Hope everyone is doing well!
