Hate to break to you guy ... but it's normal. Two thousand page textbooks are now your friend. Get cracking. :chuckle

The best thing is a rolling bookbag or even a suitcase works good.

yep, this is normal. i was shocked when first starting, too. the good news is that you will continue to use some of these books as a resource throughout the entire program. i would keep the med-surg books & pharmacology reference guide. you'll probably dump a few of them after this semester, though (& hopefully recover a few bucks). you will learn that no one book contains all the info you need -- you have to use them all for relevant bits/pieces of info. now that i'm a nurse, i still have a bookcase full of books that i occassionally refer to -- however, most of the books that i now find valuable were purchased after nursing school.

Specializes in Med-Surg.

You think it's shocking now? Wait until they assign you 15-20 of those chapters over a 2-3 week period and tell you anything goes on the exam including all lecture content (which they love to pull from books you don't have). Welcome to boot camp for nurses. As incomprehensible as it may sound, it actually IS survivable.

Specializes in post-op.

Hope you have an area to dedicate to your books. My living room is mine! I have a summer break and cannot wait to stash them away for a couple of months..... Good luck in school!

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

It's amazing and intimidating to stack your books like that when you first start. Mine came up above the knee. Fortunately most of them were used throughout the program and didn't have to be read the first quarter. :)

Good luck to you. :)

Yes.. I know what you mean! 15 Books for first semester, took me 3 trips to my truck! Second semester ..9 more books! I dont' use a backpack I use what I call the" body bag"! So far.. I have 4 bookcases packed! I should have a complete medical library by the time I am done with school!

Best Wishes to you and Nursing school! :)

Always remember! Bend your knee's when you lift your books! :chuckle

Twinkie :p
