How is everyone's weather

I know here in Kansas City, Missouri we are in the middle of our first winter storm this winter. It started yesterday we sleet, drizzle and Ice. There is about 1/2 inch to an inch of just solid ice depending on where you live in the city and some have their power off. To top things of the ice is still happening in my town I live in a surburb of Kansas City and later on today the weather people are saying we are going to get at least 3-6 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow we are suppose to get more bad weather. All schools were closed including every college in the area so that meant for me and my classmates we had no clinicals today and if the weather gets worse then it looks like everything will be cancelled for tomorrow too.

So I am sitting at home reviewing things. My daughter she is only 4 and her daycare/preschool was closed today also and she did not understand why we could not go today after I tried explaining to her that it is dangerous to go anywhere, she got more confused because my dad had to go to work and she said well, if grandpa can go to work then how come I can't go to school and I said well they don't want kids to fall and hurt themselves or be out in bad weather, and then I left it at that.

This weather is so weird, just the past weekend we had 60s and almost 70 degree weather now we are below freezing and dealing with ice, snow and some people have no power. Well, I guess that is winter time huh.

OK, I lied, It is absolutely GORGEOUS outside. Just went out to grab some lunch and it's about 65 - 70 degrees. It's pretty windy but very warm and sunny. No jacket necesary! This weather that we would normally get in June. Seriously!

This has actually been a very dry and unusually "warm" winter.. now keep in mind I moved up here from New Mexico.. so here is our forecast:

Today

Increasing clouds. Cold with highs 15 to 20. Brisk southwest wind 15 to 30 mph diminishing late.

Tonight

Partly cloudy. Lows near zero.

Friday

Increasing clouds and not as cold. Brisk southwest wind 15 to 25 mph. Highs in the mid 20s.

Friday Night

Mostly cloudy. Lows in the single digits.

Saturday

Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 20s.

Sunday

Dry and windy. Lows zero to 5 above. Highs 30 to 35.

Monday

Windy and colder with a chance of snow showers. Lows around 10. Highs 20 to 25.

Dry and not as cold. Lows 5 to 15. Highs in the mid 30s

Oh.. by the way.. no OT this week... oh well.. so off I go to Winter in Wyoming from Denver!

Sunny and clear. High 60's or low 70's. Same as it was the day before and the day before that. And same as it will be tomorrow. Our weather is stable enough that the 5-day forecast temps only varies by about 3 or 4 degrees fro day to day.

Nights down to low 40's and 30's. Had frost on the grass when I got home from work this morning (now that's SO not okay in SD!).

...and let me just add that my coworker's sister had to scrap frost from her windshield with her credit card because we are just not prepared for that kind of thing here!

Coastal South Carolina here. Outside is warm and balmy, low 70"s. Its definatly a beach day,but I am deep in my books. This winter has been very warm, except we did get snow(SNOW?) on the second weekend of this month, pine tress cracking and falling. What a sound. Anyway, this weekend is supposed to be back in the 50's. nice while it lasted.

I'm in Indiana and it's not snowing this year, it seems. Raining a lot, but it doesn't seem like winter. We have our niece from Florida here, who has never seen snow, and it doesn't look like the poor tot is going to this year either!:)

O.K. How about this? Light snow with an earthquake on a day with a full moon in California... You tell me what is going on with these strange events? I hate earthquakes!!!

I'm in the southwestern part of Texas, and today it is COLD! AND I LOVE IT COLD HERE! I hate Texas weather when it's hot and muggy, so quite naturally when it's cold, it's all right with me! :D ;) I don't know how Texans live here when the weather turns muggy and hot. This past week, it's been hot and muggy, so had the air conditioner on. Then, overnight it seems, the temp drops to a cold one, so the heat comes back on, then.... Well, you get my drift. It's plain awful! :o Give me sunny California anyday!

Let's see, Monday it was beautiful, almost 70 degrees & sunny. It's been nothing but downhill form there...

All the schools are enjoying their second day of cancellations. The streets aren't bad, it's just that all of the ice has downed many trees and power lines. I think it was like 3,500 homes in this city are without power, and dozens of our streets are or have been impassable in the last 24 hours. They even shut down part of I-75 last night. My son's school district, notorious for NEVER cancelling, is doing just that because a dozen of it's schools are without power.

I'm just glad I haven't had to work since Tuesday!!

I had a guy tell me today in about a mile drive that took maybe 5 mins ,,he saw rain sleet snow and sunshine ,,,,,and like most here in illinois it was in high 60's .....crazy weather gotta love it ......

Anne in Kansas City here.....hi Peaceful!!

Yep, the past two days have been interesting. We had some RNs and Techs call in Wed and Thurs. Guess What!!!....the patients all made it to the hospital for their ELECTIVE SURGERIES!!!! My goodness....I surely wouldn't risk my life and limbs just to get a hernia repair. (Two for one winter storm special: Come on in today and we'll fix your hip too!!! What a deal.)

Anyway, Darren and I were blessed. We had a very large cottonwood tree cut down two weeks ago. This monster was butted up right against the house and was at least 80-90 feet tall. The base was about 4ft in diameter.....could have crushed our house if the ice had gotten it. Talk about timing!!!

We also still have our power (and heat). Some in the K.C. area were told they won't be getting power back for three weeks. Yikes!

The drive home today was oddly beautiful. Our ice-storm caused widespread destruction, however, the ice covered trees and grass look like crystal figures. Gorgeous. Everything sparkles.

Have a good one,

Anne:)
