How are all of you paying for school?

I'm starting nursing school next month. I've applied for a couple of scholarships at two hospitals that will cover tuition. I already have a degree so I don't qualify for the Pell Grant. I'm not sure yet if I will be able to get other federal or state grants. I applied for financial aid after I knew for sure that I would be going to nursing school in the fall. I have enough savings to cover living expenses for 16 months while I'm going to school. I really don't want to work during school or take out any loans (done that before).

I was just wandering how you all are paying for school and living expenses. :)

I'm in a similar situation. I already have a degree and don't qualify for Pell. Unfortuantely, there doesn't seem to be a great deal scholarship opportunities at hospitals in my state. My financial aid package consists of subsidized and unsubsidized stafford loans, a federal nursing loan, and an in state grant.

Loans, my husband, and a small pell grant is what's sending me to school.

How am I paying for school? I start in 3½ weeks, and I still can't answer that. :uhoh21:

No really, I don't qualify for grants, either. I plan on getting a student loan, which I won't receive until halfway through the semester. CHARGING in the meantime, unfortunately. I also plan on applying for a few scholarships. If you don't want a loan, I would suggest scholarships, and contacting your local hospitals to see if they can assist you. Some of them around here give student nurses the option of working as externs, and paying for part of their tuition, with the nurse signing a work commitment (sp?) contract to go in effect after graduating. Good luck!

Our school isn't too terribly expensive. I get a Pell Grant and we pay the rest on a monthly basis. I just got some info on a scholarship that is being offered, so I hope that I will get it to alleviate the cost a bit. If I was going someplace more expensive, I'd have to take out loans for sure. I really don't want to do that. We are still paying for my husband's Masters degree. Ugh!

My husband works and pays the bills, & I have subsidized and unsubsidized stafford loans for school related expenses.

PS- I also have a previous Bachelor's so no Pell grants, but they still gave me the loans.

I'm still young and I live either at home or in a dorm 30 min away from home, so my parents support me and pay for school. I'm sure if I were on my own it'd be all my responsibility though. Next year I might apply for a scholarship. I think they would appreciate it.

Grants, scholarships, and a hope and prayer LOL:)

:crying2: Loans.....loans......loans.....loans......beg....borrow.....and....steal:crying2:

There is a thread on this somewhere. I will be in same boat next year if I decide to proceed with accelerated BSN. I have heard BankOne has loan program and SallieMae. For my first Bachelor's I am using student loan program and could not survive without it.

I applied for and received a scholarship from a local hospital. It will cover my tuition for my 2 year program. I am paying for books, etc. with a part time job.

My husband's paying all the bills so I don't have to work while I'm going to school and I'm considering an indentured servitude agreement with a local hospital for most of my college expenses.. They're willing to cover UP TO $1100 per term (3 terms a year) and in return want my undying devotion for four years following graduation..
