Homework before school even starts

What to my wondering eyes should appear in my mailbox today? A package from school with homework and a test.

I nearly fell over. I don't start til Sept 2 and they sent me homework. I guess they are trying to prepare us. This is my first semester in an ADN program. I could see assigning us some chapters to read. They assigned 6 chapters in a book that isn't available until Aug 14th. Plus I've got over 120 math problems to do.

I am glad I got some time to work on them. I guess it just took me by surprise.

Anyone else get a homework package in the mail?

I've heard that during orientation we will be assigned homework. I'm going to try and get a head start by reading the first chapter of all my books and doing the study guide questions. I'm sure it won't be enough but it's at least a start!

Marci:)

When I went to my orientation the instructors gave us a list of some reading assignments that will be given out the first week of school. It's optional to read them ahead of time but highly advisable so you have an edge up on things. I've started doing my math work and will start the reading assignments when I get the rest of my books, this weekend.

We were given a 4 page list of all chapters & books to read for 2nd semester. I'm focusing on reading the first few chapters...there is no way I'd remember all the rest anyways.

I have mucho reading to do before September 3rd, and my book hasn't gotten here yet. So much for ordering from ecampus.

We were given homework assignments for the summer. Luckily we received them the last day of school so we've had a ton of time to get them completed.

Didn't get any home work prior to starting the program but now it is common to have reading assignments during our short breaks between semesters. As a matter of fact, our first day of class for this semester was supposed to be on a Monday, but while taking our last final last semester it was announced that we were to be in class on the Thursday before the Monday and have read x number of chapters.

I would say that the majority of our professors in general realize students cannot retain those countless numbers of chapters given as reading assignments. But it seems necessary to get a grasp on basic nursing knowledge before we start our first week's lab and lecture so we aren't shocked when we begin our respective nursing schools.

Also, it's one way nurse educators have to weed out those who aren't serious students. Many will quit the very first day of class, some even before due to the seemingly overwhelming volume of work required of us.

Nonetheless, I wish everyone well in their studies.

Good Googly Moogly!!! My head is spinning reading this!!! Good Luck ti all of you!!!!

Yes, we get homework assignments before the start of every semester.

It's a good thing, really. There is so much information to cover that having to read chapters before the start of class gives you the jump on things. That way when you go to lecture for the first time you are prepared for the topic.

Trust me.....there is no way you can possibly read everything. Having the luxury to read some chapters now before you start clinicals, going to lab, writing papers, doing care plans will be a big help.
