"Last week in our first 4 hour lecture with our Psych instructor (2nd yr NS) she apologized up front if she offends anyone because she is used to letting the "F" word fly and hopes it won't be a problem."

"Fly" . . . is how she described it.

I respectfully disagree with those who think this is no big deal.

It is unprofessional for a teacher to use profanity like this.

Am I wrong to mention that the SE for the memory trick is for ANTI-cholinergic drugs, drugs that BLOCK or reduce the action of acetylcholine?

Uh, while I let that word (and others) "fly" from time to time, I would think that in addition to setting a bad example, there might be a tendency for others in the class to add their 2 cents worth and also let 4-letter words "fly".

She sets the tone and I think the tone should be one of professionalism. I highly doubt that if she works in a hospital or dr's office that she's letting these words "slip".

I had a co-worker (in a business setting) get reprimanded by our manager who threatened to write him up for saying "sh|!" in a meeting of a few of our team members. We're known for swearing amongst ourselves, but she wasn't having any of it in a professional setting.

I don't think that it's okay. The drink is another thing and unless you're personally responsible for the room or her actions, I'd definately bow out of that fight!!!

She sounds like fun. It beats sitting listening to a boring teacher for 4 hours. I happen to like all my professors, not because they cuss, but because they keep things light.

Four hours is a long time to talk without water. Cut her some slack.

    Tim . . . .

CRNA - why is the choice a teacher who cusses or one who bores? Is there no middle ground?

And what makes a teacher who cusses interesting? She could still be a boring teacher who says the "F" word. The "F" word doesn't make her interesting. Even a 3 year old can overhead that word and say it. It doesn't take any intelligence to say it.

Next time she drops an F-bomb, raise your hand and ask her to clarify 'what the F she's talking about"
seriously ,totally unprofessional, and I would in your shoes leave an anonymous note with her higher ups.

    That is great!

Raising my hand . . "um, what the f-bombing is the f-bombing reasoning behind the f-bombing Loop of Henle and f-bombing diuresis in a f-bomb-ing dialysis pt?".

yeah, she'd go for that surely . . .otherwise she'd be a tad hypocritical.

    (sorry mods )

I believe she meant it was her (the op) second year of nursing school.

    It shouldn't matter regardless.
