I will be graduating from ADN program when I am 28 and will have masters when I am 30. AM I to old for nursing. I feel old with all the 20 year old people in there.

Its intimidating but I stick through it.

WHat do you think?

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

I'll be 28 in a month. I'll be in my 30's when i complete an ADN,

I'll be in my late 30's if i complete my master's. If you're old, then so am i.

Nobody is ever to old to pursue a career or to go to school. I will be 36 yrs old when I finish my LPN, and who knows how old I will be when I complete my RN. In class, I sit right in front of two 56 year old mothers with grandchildren. You are never too old. :)

Specializes in OB, M/S, HH, Medical Imaging RN.

I got my ASN at age 46. I'm now almost 50. That makes me ancient comparatively speaking but you know what? I can keep up with all the 20 somethings ! :)

Specializes in Med-Surg, Psych.

Absolutely not! I will be 36 when I get my ADN and 39 with by BSN. If all goes as planned, I will get my Masters when I am 42. You are definetely not too old.

Best of luck!

I started nursing school at age 45 and will finish my MSN in May. You are not too old.

Nope. You are definitely not too old! I was 40 when I got my LPN and will be 46 when I graduate this time coming....

No offense, but :lol2: .

Surely you have some elderly people in you class, say, over the age of 35? They seem to be doing quite well, huh?

Seriously, tho, you will be 30 at some point, whether you get your degree or not... might as well get it.

I'm 47, and was just accepted into a nursing program. I'll be 50 at graduation, but you know what? I'd be 50 anyway. I might as well be what I want to be. I think you're in a wonderful position to teach the younger students something. And I'd hate to sound cliche, but you really are as old as you feel. If nursing is the career that you want to pursue, then pursue it wholeheartedly and with enthusiasm! You'll never regret the journey. Good luck, and be well.

In nursing school at the age of 44. Majority of the class is in their 20's. Don't have any problems with them. If you want it bad enough, you are never too old!

I feel real old right now....I finished lpn school at 43, and am working toward my rn right now. I am 44 and the oldest in my english comp class. I had always been a waitress with a dream to be a nurse. My kids got older and more independant so I went for it. I think I bring some positive things to the nursing table. Maturity being a big one. I love it, and believe age is not a factor. As far as energy..I kick it up all day long. I love my patients and I am so glad I did it. When I get my RN i'll be on top of the world. Never let age get you down. I've only gotten better with age..

Took the words right out of my mouth ...

If your class is comprised entirely of 20-year olds (other than yourself) then it is more the exception than the rule. As I've read countless times here on these boards, my class ranges in age from 19 to 53.

If you need encouragement, talk to some nurses. You'll notice that they continue to work well beyond the expected retirement age of 30 ... :rotfl:
