A&P textbooks

I took A&P many years ago while working on a bachelors degree. I'm now starting back to school and hoping to get into a nursing program for 2004. My A&P classes are going to transfer, but there isn't a chance I remember more than a fraction of that stuff. Can anyone tell me what books you use for your A&P classes? I would like to get some used books for a refresher.

I would go to Barnes and Nobel or Amazon or Borders and look for any books on A&P. I have a book called Made Incredibly Easy for A&P. It's much cheaper and you will get a good over view.

Also, search the internet for webpages about areas you have a hard time with. Sometimes the best examples I get are from websites.

Good luck!

Most programs use of one of two A&P books, "Human Anatomy and Physiology" by Elaine Marieb or "Principles of Anatomy and Physiology" by Tortora and Grabowski

I have both! My school changed books between my A&P I and A&P II classes. I think the Marieb book is better but the Tortora book is an easier read.

Here's another vote for the Marieb book. It's comprehensive but not so dense that you can't read it. It has lots of pictures, too.

Specializes in Adolescent Psych, PICU.

We use Elaine Marieb book as well. Its really good, reads easy and it comes with a CD that really helps explain things better (the CD is the best part IMO).

A new edition just came out not to long ago so I bet you could find an older edition if you looked.

Buy the springhouse anatomy and a different one Pathophisology made incredibly Easy series. They are great and remind me of the for dummies series of books

We use the books by Fredric Martini. I like them because it is a set that includes the textbook, the lab manual, an applications manual (basically describes how the things in the book apply to daily medicine) and then a full color anatomy helper type book. I would recommend the Martini books highly.

I'm in A&P now, and we use Hole's Anatomy & Physiology 10th Edition.

Specializes in ICU, CM, Geriatrics, Management.

Our class uses the latest Marieb book.

Spoke to the prof at the beginnng of the term and he OK'ed my using the 2000 edition of the book (which is what he teaches from). Not many changes in A / P from year-to-year.

I paid $13 (from Amazon or another site) for it (brand new), while my fellow students dished out $133 for the current edition at the school's bookstore.

Content-wise, they're essentially the same.

We also use Hole's Human Anatomy and Physiology 10th Ed

We use the Marieb book too. I really like it...very easy to read, and the CDs are a great study help.

Specializes in OB, lactation.

This is the Marieb 5th edition that I used last year and still refer to all the time!

Looks like you can get a used one for about $25! I like the book a lot.

If I had the choice between an academic textbook like this for $25 (even used) or any other review guide - however good it may be ("made incredibly easy," etc.) I would DEFINITELY get the real full textbook. I use some of the "made easy/dummy" guides but they are very secondary to the real texts for me personally. You'd just be getting a lot for your money with a used Marieb or Tortora text in this price range.
