How many hours do y'all work a paycheck? Myself I usually work 100+ hours, all by choice mind you. This paycheck I am on for 5 off 1 on 5 off 3 I work nights and 12 hour shifts. Am I just crazy or are more people like me out there?

right now i'm working 7 days/week, so yeah i'm crazy too. :p (i work prn for two different companies, six SAR facilities altogether.)

why do you work so much? are you trying to save $ for something in particular?

I could work 24/7. The question here is not how many hours.. are many are SAFE hours.

It's NOT about the nurses earning potential... you must take into consideration how you can perform with so many hours, especially on the night shift.

I would call you both crazy, but I can't b/c I'm starting a PRN job soon which could have me maxing out at 58 hours in a week when combined with my full time gig.

Gotta pay them bills, ya know?

Wow! What kind of money are you making per paycheck?!?

my full time job is in PDN, so a bit less taxing. I don't think I could work the floor for that many hours unless I was single and childless. But then I probably wouldn't need to. :p

Are you a new grad? Those are burn out hours and not doing your patients or coworkers any favors.

I strive to work 40 hours a week, no more. It's usually more like 45-50 hours/week.

I value my free time. You couldn't tempt me into working more hours for overtime pay/shift diff/benefits/all the tea in bags.

I work 3 12 hr nights a week, no more! I've also got 3 kids and baseball and things I want to do.

To answer simply, yes, you're crazy. :)

I work 20 hours a week. My FT job is my 5 kids :)

Specializes in Emergency Nursing.

I work 3-12's at my FT job in the ED and work 16-24 hours at my PRN job every other week. Sometimes when The PRN place doesn't have hours I want, I will pick up a shift at my FT place but I try not to. Even if the money is good it is too much time at the same place and I don't want to get burnt out. I also only work overtime every other week for the same reason. All my overtime money gets put in my savings account for extras like vacation, new clothes, etc.
