So I'm wondering how many of you work with a Doctor that really practice like the TV counterpart Dr. House? I mean I sure the writers are getting these ideas from some Rebel Doc out there...right?

see, i have a different take.....i dont view House as a medical show, but a mystery.....

The medical aspect is only one side of the show House and IMHO not the most important and doesn't make the show. The interaction between the different personalities, examination of the human condition, ego and psyche as well as House's dry humor are far more interesting than the medical stuff that goes on. If you watched the series from the beginning you'll understand what I mean.

I was thinking fantasy

Mystery is closer; examination of the human condition may be closer yet.

House is just a modern remake of Sherlock Holmes, folks. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think House is more about psychology--Freudian at that--with the classic Id, Ego, and Superego represented.

That being said, I'm glad that Huntington's Disease has been in the spotlight. I HATE this disease, it ripped my family apart.

IMO house is primarily a medical show. It is about a mystery, but medicine can be a mystery. People at home like learning about the 1/1,000,000 diagnoses. On the contrary, I would say the focus of shows like Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice are on non-medical/Who's sleeping with who. IMO There isn't a non-reality show out there with a greater focus on medicine.

On a side note, there is too much jargon that lay people wouldn't understand (BUN, Creatinine, etc).

I love that show. I also love Nurse Jackie. I guess dark humor and flawed people appeal to me.

I don't watch television for reality. Were that show real the second time House asked for peppermint tea the nurse would've told him, "The kitchen's that way, princess."

My husbund and I were JUST talking about this. I cannot even bear to be in the same room with that guy! Iknow, I know, it's just a show! Thank my lucky stars I don't have to ever meet him, unless he comes to MY house :)

A real life Dr House would practice medicine in a real life hospital for about half a day. He'd get awful survey scores. The nurses would write him up. Management would reprimand him, and some crazy pt would send him to the great beyond. But wouldn't it be fun to watch the fireworks.:D

Ah, but this has come up several times in the series. He's a darn good doctor and saves peoples lives. I'd feel obligated to put up with it if he saved lives, but maybe I'm biased because I'm a huge fan of the show. Also, I think it would be freaking AWESOME if they introduced a nurse who had just as much attitude as house (only towards him of course) who actually cared a lot about the patients. They could always be at each others throats. She would be an older nurse (i've always pictured a lady like the one of patch adams, the older african american nurse) who's been practicing for at least 20 years, has great comebacks and plays practical jokes on him, and maybe even helps him realize that caring for a patient or two isn't such a bad thing instead of just wanting to solve the puzzle. Maybe his interest in a patient would help to solve the puzzle if you know what I mean. Who's with me?!!

What a great idea! Write that one in to the producers maybe you can be a highly paid consultant too!
