  1. I think Bipolar patients are prescribe synthroid because Lithium blocks a step of thyroid hormone synthesis.
  2. Increasing the level of thyroid hormone can increase peristalsis without causing diarrhea. Since your patient had a rectal mass, it is possible the physician is prophylaxing for future bowel issues.
  3. HIV/AIDS is definitely a tough disease to learn about - something physicians do entire fellowships on to learn how to expertly treat. The pathophys/life cycle of HIV is complex. There are so many opportunistic infections to be cautious of and antiretroviral medications. Not to discourage but good luck! p.s. out of curiousity, is there a particular reason you have an interest in HIV?
  4. DNP anyone?? sorry couldn't resist...
  5. here's the real question - why does this thread or a variability of it come up every week on AN?
  6. Between a doctor and nurse whom the pt has never met, he/she is much more likely to confide in a nurse. However, pts can be very truthful about sensitive issues (e.g. substance use, sexual history, etc.) with their primary care docs esp. if they have built good rapport and continuity of care.
  7. some dirty mnemonics for the Cranial Nerves Oh Oh Oh To Touch And Feel Virgin Girl's lady partss...Ah Heaven Some Say Money Matters But My Brother Says Big Boobs Matter More
  8. you sir are overpaid...what city do you live in? Also, do you work 80 hrs a wk? if so i can understand your exorbitant pay...no offense
  9. v Holy 3 year Resurrection thread batman!!:rolleyes: you miss are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy overpaid :rolleyes: Where do you work at?
  10. a lot of doctors (MD, PhD, DO, DDS, etc.) have all official documentation changed (drivers license, passport, credit cards, etc.) once they earn their doctorates. I personally think it's fine if a nurse put RN after her name on a flight, but official titles are usually reserved for those with doctorates.
  11. IMO house is primarily a medical show. It is about a mystery, but medicine can be a mystery. People at home like learning about the 1/1,000,000 diagnoses. On the contrary, I would say the focus of shows like Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice are on non-medical/Who's sleeping with who. IMO There isn't a non-reality show out there with a greater focus on medicine. On a side note, there is too much jargon that lay people wouldn't understand (BUN, Creatinine, etc).
  12. I'm sure the 18,000+ clinical hours a physician has before he/she is independent is plenty of time around pts
  13. you didn't read my earlier response What if CNAs were able to take a 3 week course where they earned the title of nurse (not RN or LPN, but something else)? These CNAs would introduce themselves as nurse because they "earned it". Do you think that is fair?
  14. well how do you respond to my cna comment?
  15. people who resort to namecalling usually don't have a good argument
