Will this effect me?????

I have one little problem. I have trouble explaining things. When I explain, I'll rephrase a lot, and sometimes I will actually forget my point so then I'll get a blank mind. This happens for like everything.. I can't really think before I speak, I can only visualize and this causes me to forget or rephrase my words. I can teach Algebra 2 but even though I know it so well, I still have this problem. Constantly rephrasing because my first words did not come out clear and then getting this blankness in mind.

Can I still be a nurse?? I took A & P already but This explaining thing is holding me back

I can write, type to explain much better, but I will need an eraser for writing because I do the exact same thing.

I have these symptoms as well. I was diagnosed with ADHD. Not saying that's what you have but it is possible. When I try to verbally explain things I just talk into circles and the point is nowhere to be found;) I am currently taking prereqs for ADN and my coworkers say that I'll make a good nurse. Being diagnosed helped because I am being treated for it and the treatment, while has not made things completely normal, it has helped big time!

P.S. I also have a lot of word finding issues. Do you have that too?

wow. you sound exactly like me. word finding issues are my biggest problem. i don't know where to turn, or how to get help- but i am a nurse, and i darn good one :)

Poor communication can be distressing to patients and families going through the illness process. I would suggest attending a local toastmasters club or something similar to improve your speaking comfort and style. Communication is important, or you could find a lab job.

My gut instinct is that you have some kind of gift that you don't know how to master. I'd suggest seeing someone who specialises in communications, get this analysed. And I have absolutely no idea why, that's just my (really strong) gut reaction.

This may be related to an undiagnosed form of learning disability, but I don't see why you should give up on becoming a nurse. Lots of people have strengths and weaknesses in their learning style, and some people become paralyzed by anxiety which can also cause an artificial disconnect between what is in your mind and what comes out in the form of words.

It would help if you think in terms of what and to who you need to explain things to. I found that when I had to orient people to new homecare cases, using a visual aid to keep me on track was very helpful. I kept a blank assessment form to go down the line and make sure there were no gaps.

In the patient education realm a booklet or handout as a visual aid may help the patient to absorb what you are explaining more completely, too.

I got diagnosed with it 5 weeks ago but didn't know this was a symptom.

Well I can talk normally it's just that your going to either have to here me stutter until I explain it clearly, draw a picture of it with keywords, or let me write it down. I can talk normally for everything its just that when it comes to little bit harder explanations I do go around in circles and rephrase.

I have to visualize to explain pretty weird

It's like every time I explain something, I have to repeat it because I either used the wrong words the first time or couldn't remember a word.

I'm very good at calming people down and stopping them from doing idiotic things. I don't know why but when it comes to things like alcohol, wanting to commit suicide, social anxiety, depression, take drugs

I'm very good at explaining. I don't know why.

I'll usually explain why it's bad for your physical and mental health. What happens as soon as you take those chemicals in and how it can affect your health in the future.

Let me think: probably cause I have ADD lol
