We have done many surveys in the recent past on Ebola, Nursing Salaries, and other topics. But now we want to hear from YOU. What topics would you like to know more about.....what are other nurses are thinking?

allnurses is a place for nurses to share their thoughts and opinions. A place where nurses' voices can be heard. This is your chance to let us know what you want to talk about as we are planning for upcoming monthly surveys.

Please post your ideas for monthly survey topics as well as what questions you would like to have included in the surveys.

Thanks for your input!

Job satisfaction, to include things such as vacation policies, nurse : patient ratios, that sort of thing.

Yes, job satisfaction.

Medical benefits and employee share/OOP.

I'd also like to know what lifestyle nurses' salaries afford in different areas. As in salary and average rent/sales price on a newer/nice 3bd in a safe neighborhood with a Trader Joes.

I think the huge controversy right now is the anti-vaccination movement. I definitely promote truth-telling on my FB page and have a few family members (my daughter and daughter-in-law unfortunately) who believe all the myths floating around on the internet.

Here is a good editorial with lots of links to give you a synopsis of what's been going on out there.

Since this is a current event, this might be the one to jump on first.

What questions do you suggest for this survey?

Piggybacking onto Spider's mom's post, how about a survey evaluating the knowledge, understanding, and ability to recognize some of these vaccine preventable illnesses that are coming back around, by newer nurses that have never encountered them. I'd like to think I would recognize tetorifice, rubella or polio, but I've NEVER seen any of them in 7 years of nursing. Would I recognize some of these right away while I'm in triage?

As reminded by the thread "I Have the Time and Other Lies" I'd like to know how nurses feel the Customer Service mentality has impacted how they practice. Does fear of a "bad survey" make nurses more likely to allow families to bring in restricted food items or not insist on ambulating post-op patients?

My number one concern, and the root of all evil is under staffing.

As a starting point, I would like to know how pervasive under staffing is and how many nurses would support federally or state mandated nurse patient ratios.

I would like to ask have you ever witnessed a death as the direct result of under staffing and how many?

Have you ever witnessed a patient sustain a permanent disability as the direct result of under staffing and how many?

I would ask respondents to list the nurse patient ratio for their department or specialty.

Next, I would like to see this data broken down by type of facility, State and union vs non union vs federal facility vs non profit and for profit facility.

I would ask respondents if they support Federally or state mandated nurse patient ratios.

I would ask if they have ever or would vote yes to unionization to ensure a safe nurse patient ratio.

I would ask respondents to list professional licensure, degree, specialty area and years of experience.

There would be a section for individual comments and anecdotes.

Then I would send the whole thing to the New York Times, the Boston Globe, NPR, PBS anyone else that I could think of that has a platform to expose the bad practices in this industry.

We have lost our way as a nation and as professionals. I fear for our patients and our new nurses who are being indoctrinated to function as robots and accept unsafe working conditions.

Before I get jumped on, let me preface what I'm about to say by clarifying that I am NOT anti-vaccine. I do, however, take some issue with being forced to have the flu vaccine at my hospital, or to have to jump through hoops and wear a face mask for months if I don't want it......or quit the job.

It would certainly ease my mind though if I were to seem some clear benefits of forcing healthcare workers to get it. I have been saying for a while now that I would like to see some statistics regarding the "before and after" of the flu vaccine being required and how it has or has not benefited the hospitals that require it. Has it served the purpose it was intended for? have the facilities that require it experienced any significant decline in the numbers of staff that have contracted the flu?

Again, I'm not an anti-vaxxer, but I do have some issues with this fairly recently implemented policy in many healthcare settings.

Not jumping on you, but instead of changing topics on this thread about future survey topics, there are plenty of threads about mandatory flu vaccines that would be better suited for your post.

These are excellent suggestions.

Thank you icuRNmaggie for adding questions for your suggested topic.

Keep the suggestions coming. This is your nursing website and your platform for letting your voices be heard.

Here are couple more relevant questions:

Are you taking an anti anxiety or antidepressant to help you cope with the stress in your workplace related to under staffing?

Have you ever been injured on the job due to under staffing?

It would be a good idea to use some kind of alert, not email notification, in order to receive a large sample. Thank you.
