I only work part time nights and trust me in that work environment and with only 2 CNAs (who are the best in my opinion) and just me for 50 patients, some who belong in a psych ward... I have to destress.

My way is to Swim and do yoga.....I swim about 3 miles a week (a mile is 70 laps), and I do quite a bit of yoga on dvd sets, I use Wai Lana Dvds. I also meditate and do a lot of reading.

How do you de stress..........besides drinking :lol2: just kidding.

Exercise: swim, bike, run, yoga

Hanging with my dogs is an instant de-stressor. Their silliness drops my BP, pulse, and respirations.

I shop at the fruit stand, TJ Maxx, Bath and Body or one my other fav store and spend under $10-20 depending on what I can use. Or I may get me a yogurt ice cream and park at the park. Or I may go to Sonic Drive-In and sit in the car and get a limeade and call my mother on my cellphone. Family members usually can put work stress into perpective. I may bypass all this, go home and watch HGTV or check for messages on FB and Yahoo. Sometimes I like looking at pet photos on animal shelter websites. That is usually what I do. During the day I will pull out my little new testament. I know I should walk more but I usually like company for that just out of safety reasons. I need to find a great exercise dvd. :)

Gardening. Now, that is so comfortable in my neck of the woods, I am planting and prettying up the place. Today I bought a sea horse water fountain, and put it on the patio. I planted my tomatos, and dill, and bunches of flowers. I sat on the patio and doodled for about an hour. Not using my mind, just sitting and watching the scenery and feeling the wind. The patio is my place, of course I will allow people on it from time to time, but it is mine. This is a great spot to destress.

I run to de-stress. Also, I blow money sometimes... not a good thing but it works.

The best de-stresser ever ...

Barnes & Noble.

Even better if there's a Starbucks nearby (or within...)

Which reminds me it's time to renew my membership.

I've been hauling all the houseplants out to the patio this morning. Pulling weeds. Planting marigolds. Best destresser in the whole world. Got up early and took the dog to the park. Wore her little furry behind out. Then I made a cup of tea and spent 30 mins. watching my koi with the dog in my lap. What stress?

To MouseMichelle:

Do you and two CNAs have all responsibility for 50 patients alone? How big is the care-need for these patients? I'm just curious because it's very stressful on my workplace as well. And I'm working in Norway.

I go for a warm bath and listen to relaxing music when I'm stressed up :)

Did my 40 minute wai lana stretch yoga...and feel great, now eating scrambled eggs followed by yogurt, then going to sit on my bed with my two cats and read and watch TV, then off to bed for another stressful night at work LOL. Tomorrow I think I'll go for a swim...oh how I love swimming.
