hi everyone :) i'm a 26 years old bsn-nurse with 100% employment. i have been in work for one year soon. the thing is after several tests by my doctor, i'm probably going to develop ankylosing spondylitis (bekhterevs) in the future. i have accepted it and knows that i must do the best out of it. i love being a nurse and i love to work. i'm not going to let that rheumatologial disease get in to my way and prevent my future plans and work. when that is said, we know diseases like that have good and bad periods. are there anyone here with ankylosing spondylitis (or other rheumatological diseases) who can tell me something about how it is to work in the us with such a disease? the reason i ask is because i want to work as a rn-bsn in the us for a period in the future. i have read some frightening threads in here where people are getting fired for unbelievable reasons... with that disease in mind, i wonder what employment possibilities there are?

hi wyndz! i'm sure you can apply for a job in norway one day, but it requires some working: you must speak and write norwegian. i'm just honest with you. no hospital or nursinghome will ever hire you if not. that's because many norwegians doesn't speak english and because your practice will become unsafe. the most important issue for your matter is that you accomplish a safe practice. you have a big responsibility in health care.

hm.... this sounds a bit suspicious i must admit... be careful! the only engineer-agency with name fino i could find in norway, has nothing to do with nursing... they sell electronics and things to the household!!!! check out the website: www.finotrading.no i couldn't find any other companies who claims they give jobs to nurses in norway. where did you find the information about fino? are you a rn-bsn? where are you from? :)

i'm sorry but i can't help you with that one. i'm from norway, so i don't have that much knowledge about the us nursing system yet . maybe it will help if you write your question under "general nursing discussion forum" ?

i'm from norway in skandinavia. what do you mean it's located in bcda taguing?? fino is a engineer-agency as far as i found out. if you want me to find out more (like if it's serious/legit) just give me a wink

thank you so much jammin246rn :) i think the agreement (blanket order) between the rn and the doc seems like a very good one. here in norway rns do not have that opportunity. i must take the opportunity to say that the norwegian nursing leage seems to be positive interested in the us and the british nursing system :) wish you a good day

i must correct myself; a nurse or several nurses can maybe have their own practice, i'm not actually sure!

thank you very much for your information irobinson5 :) i think the us nursing system is very interesting. here in norway a nurse can never have her own practice for example.

i know that feeling myself, although i don't work night shifts. the night nurse and the cna almost describes the same as you. we have a patient that with all means should be in a psychiatric unit also. she can be very nasty to all of us and she calls approximatly 50 times on the alarmphone per shift.. this have a bad influence on other patients also, because we become stressed up and must take the alarmphone in the middle of something. she has a long psychiatric past. but the nurseleader wont listen to us. i think the patient had got a better quality of life if she got a place somewhere else. but is there a better staff-number on day and evening-shifts?

To MouseMichelle: Do you and two CNAs have all responsibility for 50 patients alone? How big is the care-need for these patients? I'm just curious because it's very stressful on my workplace as well. And I'm working in Norway. I go for a warm bath and listen to relaxing music when I'm stressed up :)
