what can I use my BSN outside of nursing?

Im thinking of getting out of nursing but dont know where I can use my degree outside the field. Has anyone done this before? Im completely dissatisfied with nursing. I dont see it being me. If I would have known what im getting myself into, I would have done something different other than nursing. I know of others who are waiting for the economy to get better so they can do something different. I dont think I can wait that long before I pull all my hair out of stress.

Most administrative jobs don't look at where you got your degrees from.

If EAP (employee assistance program) service providers is sth you like, you might wanna apply to those places.

They always hire coordinators, administrators.

That's all I can think of, for now.

I have a friend who felt the same way. She got her BSN and worked on the floor for a year then realized nursing wasn't for her. She has worked in pharmaceutical sales and is now in medical device sales and absolutely loves it. Perhaps this is an option for you.

auditor for documentation and coding, consulting, reviewer for accreditation (spelling?) organizations or even the state, educator for chronic conditions. Case management. Just a few ideas. :)

Thanks for all the wonderful ideas. Im just afraid that with this bad economy, those jobs might be hard to get into (as if nursing is easy to get into without experience).

I thought about grad school like MSN, but its too expensive. I might not even get a job as an NP without enough acute experience.

employee health for a corporation. Insurance companies also hire nurses to help review claims. I worked for a large insurance company & I did a mentoring opportunity in those areas of the company. Plus they pay nicely :)

That's true... at least in Wisconsin. I just graduated and I ask a lot of questions, especially when having a substitute. I find it interesting, because at my school, most of the subs have a Bachelors in another field. I think you have to get a certification or temporary teaching license type thing from your state. The only bad thing about subbing is you usually don't get heatlh insurance and in my district you only make about $100/day; plus, the subs go on a site called AESOP, it's sub scheduling system... and many subs are on that site all day, so I'm sure it's competitive to find sub jobs.
