Hi there everyone,

Just thought I would share, where I went to school was at a hospital based program, so anyways, nearly every year when their class graduates only about 5% of the graduates go to work at the hospital WHY YOU ASK? well b/c the starting wage at this hospital for LPN was $12.80 hr (not good).

This year not one of my fellow class mates had signed up to go to work at this hospital b/c of this........we all approached administration and told them why!!!!!!!!!! MORE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!

So guess what? after much talking, they came back with new raises not only for their graduating nurses, but also their already on staff nurses. YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would just like to share that will be starting off with $17.00, I think this is really good what does everyone else think?

congrats...If thats a good rate in Ohio..then sounds like a good deal...that would be low for CA...but everything is more expensive here...$5 difference from the starting salary-that sounds like a good deal to me!

Collective action gets results. Now get it in a written, legally-binding contract & hold them to it.

Congrats on your first attempt at unity. Youre going to need the practice! ;)

I live in Ohio and that is very good money for a new LPN grad. Also, your best experience is going to come from hospitals. What part of Ohio are you from. Hospice of Western reserve is also very good to theri LPN's. Just wanted to add that if you want great experience and fair pay. When I graduated I was more interested in experience than pay. It payed off in the end

Great news and kudos for sticking up for yourself AND giving administration a sound rationale why new grads not staying.

You will have many battles ahead in your career but learned an important lesson that should serve you well in the years ahead.

That hospital obviously was very aware all along that they were getting off dirt cheap with wages such as they had before, and I have a feeling they STILL know they are getting off dirt cheap....even at $17/hour! :rolleyes:

Congratulations on sounding really enthused and happy about the new pay scale for LPNs...:balloons: :nurse:...and hopefully before too long that hospital will be once again challenged to bring the pay scale up to par for all their employees. Hailing from Ohio myself....many moons past....I still think Ohio needs a jumpkick in the pants to up the salaries across the board for all health care workers in that state. :)

I live in columbus ohio and the hospital I work at starts RN's at 17.85/hr. Where are you working and what do the RN's get????

The hospital that I will be working at is part of the Cleveland Clinic Health System, located in Garfield Hts, Ohio.

I believe, that some of the RN'S at this time are making $19 and hr, so this new pay increase is still good but it is also making bad feelings between the LPN'S AND RN'S, b/c what I have heard is that the RNS have not been included in this raise increase, (which is not cool), but I will keep you all updated of future events
