That was...who?????

I have never been afraid to speak my mind, and over the years have learned to monitor my sarcasm and sharp tongue. I respect authority but do not cower in the shadow of it by any means.

Well I just completed another three day week yesterday and had two committee meetings to attend afterward. They were small meetings with Pharmacy and then one on our new computer system coming in. There was a perky, chatty woman at parts of both meetings who seemed very interested in our input as nurses. I teasingly told her I would be part of any committee she wanted as long as I could get a pin for it! She chuckled and handed me a business card when I offered to work up some committee recruitment posters.

Later on in the morning I was chatting with a committee head and ask who the woman was at the meeting. I showed her the business card and she told me she didn't know who that was, but that the woman at the meeting was...

MY SERVICE LINE HEAD! (aka my Manager's boss and one step below my CNO)

Oh dear, good thing I am a polite, albeit sassy person in most situations!!

Apparently she had grabbed the wrong business card (the one she gave me was from some other person) and I work nights so I had only heard her name, not actually met her!

My little "whoops" for the day!

That's why it usually pays to be pleasant and polite to strangers. I had a similar experience in the grocerty store a couple of weeks ago.

I had stopped by the store on my way home from work without taking off my ID badge. I almost collided with another woman with a shopping cart. We both laughed and I let her go first. She noticed my badge and introduced herself as a member of the Board of Directors -- the one who had signficantly helped to fund 2 of my pet projects! I explained who I was and thanked her for her support.

Thank goodness my behavior in the grocery store had been nothing to be ashamed of!

Wow!!

My mom's rule of thumb has always been not to get aggressive (flipping the bird, honking the horn in the car etc) when driving because you never know when someone you flipped off might be on the other side of the meeting table you were late for!

I held my temper when a clerk repeatedly screwed up at a discount store, threw away my receit, etc. Did my best to be polite although I was thoroughly irritated. Turned out the guy watching (manager) was one of my Boy Scout's dads.

Another time, I slowed down and waved a care into traffic (busy road, hard to turn on to). Didn't think much of it until a uniformed cop showed up at work, and said, "you know that person you let into traffic the other day? That was me. Thanks!"

my great uncle was a federal court judge. one hot summer day before a/c, everyone was having to make an extra effort to remain civil to each other because it was so hot and sticky. on a recess, my uncle (who was about 5'2" and slight) took his robe off and went downstairs for a current newspaper and a breath of fresh air. as he was heading back, a rather large man shoved him and ordered to get the ^&**

out of his way because he at least had something very important to do. at the top of the next flight of stairs, the same overbearing obnoxious man elbowed him out of the way and went on into a courtroom while uncle frank returned to his chambers. when he returned to his courtroom, guess who the defendant was??!! :D uncle frank recused himself.

At least it wasn't the ceo or something. :D and you were nice.

One time I was on the elevator muttering, out loud I might add, about my old boss. I don't even remember what it was but if I was ranting it must have not been pretty. And this dude stepped in, I was in the middle of my rant and didn't realize he was there till we were halfway down to the 1st floor and I realized he was there. I apologized and said something sorry my boss is being a great big pain And smiled at him. He asked me who it was and me being young (17 at the time) and stupid told him. I looked at his badge and read his name I was thank you, mister g for not throwing me out of the elevator while I was fuming. He laughed and we separated ways. After that my boss became a whole lot nicer and would give me strange looks. I didn't pay attention cause I was one foot out the door by then and I thought she knew I was looking into transfering departments. Well two days later all the employees got this letter from the Ceo and I was reading it, you know same old stuff, thanks for working here blah blah and I look at the signature and as you might have already guessed it was Mister G, CEO and Founder. O_O I thought to myself no freakin way. Shortly after that my boss was replaced with someone nicer.

I don't really know if I have something to do with that. I sure hope not. I still feel guilty. I wasn't the only one complaining about her. I knew that and I knew there had been serveral letters of complaints against her but like my coworker said yeah that true but why did it happen only after I "talked" with Mr G. they had been dealing with her for 5 years or so. oh well.

But I learned a lesson don't rant to perfect strangers. :D
