Spiritual Events

  1. I would like to hear from any of you who have had a spiritual event (religious experience?) take place in your life; something that changed or strengthened your beliefs.

When my son was 12, his best friend, also 12 years old, was hit by a truck on the way to school and died. My son blamed me and I blamed myself, because I could have driven the boy to school but didn't. It was a very difficult time for everyone.

About two weeks after the child died, I was in such pain I began to pray, "God, please give me a sign that the child is in Heaven! But please make it a GOOD sign: make something bloom or do something really noticeable, because, Lord, you know how obtuse I am!"

Three days later, my twelve year old Crassula plant burst into bloom, covered with tiny white star shaped flowers! It had never bloomed before, has never bloomed since.

I took a cutting to the boy's mother and told her my story, and it was a great comfort to her. I also gave cuttings to all my children over the years, to put in their dorm rooms at school!

It's been ten years and I still get goose bumps sitting here typing about it!

Nancy, Your story brought tears to my eyes...how sad, but beautiful...recently there was a thread titled ''Do you believe in life after death?'' l shared this story, l'm going to attempt to retrieve it and share again..l apologize to those who saw it recently, but it made such an impact on my life..........

I sat here in front of the comuter for a while debating weather or not to share this.....When l was about 7 yrs old a favorite great aunt of mine became suddenly acutely ill, life threatening, and was hospitalized for about 3 weeks before she died. Prior to her death l remember the grown ups having numerous discussions about Auntie's impending death and her final after-life destination. Seems Auntie carried a lot of guilt, and despite numerous visits from preachers and prayers, she just couldn't believe she was forgiven and worthy to go to heaven...she was raised around a very leagalistic hell and damnation religion where everything under the sun was a sin. Sometimes the adults would be saying..."Yes, she prayed and feels her soul is right with God".......next time it would be the "She isn't sure, she's afraid to die." I remember after Auntie's funeral, l felt the need to know where she was.....so every night before l went to bed l would pray and ask God..."Let me know if Auntie is in heaven." After about a month of this, l went to bed one nite after my usual ritual. My dad came in my room and said, l'm going to take you for a ride in the car." l got up and we drove out to the cemetary where Auntie was interred. The gates, which were very tall black iron hinged on stone collums were closed and locked as it was after dark. My dad pulled the car up to the gates and parked and told me to wait in the car...he got out and walked toward the gaits and out of site. Suddenly as l was sitting there waiting on him...I saw my aunt walk out from behind the right stone post and just stand there...she was dressed all in white....then the bells started to peel an old hymm..."I just heard from heaven..and it's alright now." Suddenly I was back in my bed as thought nothing had happened...was it a dream or a vision? l still don't know...but 35+yrs later, i've never forgotten one detail of this experience or how l felt when l "woke up"...l may not be able to prove it to anyone else.....but l know........thanks for listening....LR

As a Hospice Nurse, I often privileged to be with people as they made the transition to the next life. With one patient in particular, I dreamed of him floating through a tree and telling me to watch what he could do now! He died the night I had the dream and was able to be free of a body that had not allowed him to walk for years let alone float in a tree! I would have to say I am definitely a believer!

My son was to testify against an avowed satanist...a teenager who had murdered three people in a brutal manner.....(my son had heard the kid brag that he was gonna do it to "gain power in hell"....and had called the police.....who told him they were helpless until something happened......it did and my son was the witness to pre-meditation.)
As the trial neared things got scary for my son......strangers would call and warn him not to testify.....cars followed him when he walked to the store....he was spooked and I felt a lot of it was his own fear magnifying normal events.....but one night he camped out on my couch.afraid to go home.....I was reading in the next room....I heard a terrible crash.......my son ran in the room...dead white....terrified...said he had had a dream where a girl took his hand and told him they could fly..they flew into a strange house....she showed him around.then she told him not to go to the trial..He said he had to and she threw him back...he landed on the couch with such force that all four legs were broken off!! The next day in line at the store a girl walked by and said, "Like your flight?"......My son said it was the girl in his dream.

The night before my dad died, he had coded and was in the ICU, intubated, ventilated. I'm the oldest, and the only daughter that lives in the same town. One of my sisters was in Germany, the other was in Hawaii. I had done all the things I "had" to do--called my extended family, arranged for airline tickets, etc., even had to call the Red Cross re: the sis in Germany. My mother had been to the hospital, wanted to go home. I wanted to stay. So I spent Sat night in the ICU w/him, helped take care of him a little, mostly just held his hand. About 5am, I couldn't stay awake any longer, so went to my mothers house. Hospital called at 7:30, he had passed. Did I mention that it was now my birthday?

Two weeks later, I was back @ work, Sat night. In the middle of the night, a registry nurse came over to talk to me: "Hi, I'm ---, I work in the oncology clinic @ ---hospital. I just realized that you're [my dad]'s daughter. I gave him his chemotherapy!!" We chatted, what a tough thing lung cancer is, he was randomized to one of the most rigorous regimes of chemo, how he had talked about all three of his daughters and how proud he was of all of us. Very eerie! Almost like he was thanking me. Never had seen that nurse in NICU before, and never saw her work there again!

An angel came to visit me when I was 10 years of age. I was sleeping on my back in my bed when I opened my eyes all of a sudden and saw the most beautiful angel I had ever seen outside my bedroom window. He floated into my room through the glass pane of the window, and began jotting things down on a pad he held in his hand. I could clearly see the pad of paper and pencil he had. Each time he looked down at me, he smiled the sweetest smile. I was afraid at first...couldn't move my body...couldn't breathe or scream for help, then all of a sudden I was so calm by his presence...then he vanished.

I posted a picture once before of this angel, but I don't think I can do it again. Anyway, the angel I saw had very yellow hair, ice blue eyes that I could see through very clearly, the palest white skin that looked very translucent, and a very gentle smile. He had huge wings on his back that were white, and his clothing was also white. He had nothing on his feet. He was very tall, powerful looking in stature...really strong looking.

To this day, I know that God sent that angel to me to let me know that He was watching over me, and wouldn't let any harm come to me...and He has kept His promise to me all these years. I have gone through some very tough trials in my life that most people would have committed suicide over, but here I am today to live to tell this story of how my guardian angel watched over me from age 10 onward. True story...:kiss

(I tried to post the angel photo, but could not). Sorry! :kiss

    Micro,

You're soooo mysterious! Care to share?

    Renee,

I think I remember seeing your angel picture. It was beautiful. Did you ever hear that country song where the little girl doesn't get any kisses or hugs from her drunken/drugged parents and then one night the father kills the mother and then himself. The social workers take her to a new mom and dad and she gets
    kisses and hugs everyday?
At school she tells the teacher that she knows who that man is in the Jesus picture because he was there with her behind her couch with her the night her parents died?

Your experience with the angel made me think of that song. A little girl being comforted.

    God Bless, Shygirl

I absolutely love that song, Shygirl. When it was being played the most, a 2 year old girl was witness to her father killing her mother with 00buckshot (to the face) here. I hoped that Jesus had been with the child that day, as He had been with the child in the song.

Hi Shygirl...No, I don't think I've heard that song before. What 's the name of it so I can look it up? I'd love to get it and hear what it sounds like. Thanks for sharing those words with me. You too, Cathy. Both of my parents...although long divorced...are still alive and kicking, so my only comfort as a child was my need to hold onto the fact that the angel was indeed my guardian angel. I was also blessed to have had some wonderful Aunties and Uncles as a child which made a world of difference in my life. At one point, I got to go live with one of those Aunties and Uncles. I loved being their "temporary daughter" as they were unable to have children of their own. Wonderful people too. :kiss
