A facility in my town fired me over a year ago. I was a night shift LPN.
I discovered that I am down as a rehire. My old job is open and I am not applying for it. I won't be a nurse there again.
There is, however, a systems spot open - liaison between the users and IT. BSN preferred. Yeah, right. The DON doesn't have a bachelors'.
I have more than enough credits for a bachelors', have completed the course work for my RN via Excelsior and am just waiting for a test date for the CPNE, and have extensive experience and a diploma as a programmer and manager. After I get the RN I'm going to continue on for a combined BSN/MSN.
Should I apply? And should I go right to the department, where I know someone to say hello to?
I'd love to leave the bedside.

Sue: I don't see what it would hurt for you to apply, especially with programming experience. Maybe talk to the person in the department first? You'd probably get farther going to the department before you give HR an opportunity to bury your application.
I'd at least give it a shot.

Absolutely, go for it, it sounds like you are quite qualified for the position , much more than a typical BSN in fact, many employers are flexible w/ regard to qualifications, and you seem to be an exception to the general pool... sounds like a great opportunity,be positive and sell yourself, good luck!

As I have always told my children, "Nothing ventured nothing gained" and "You will never know if you never try".
So go for it Suesquatch!!!!!
The best of luck and I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you. Let us know how it turns out.
Well, I finally got up the courage to walk my resume over.
The head of personnel was there (the head of IT was out) and she was really happy to see me. No mention of past unpleasantness. AND she said that they'd had not a single applicant with the skillset they need. Not a surprise!
Cross your fingers. I think I have a desk job.

Go and apply. To me it is sort of an 'in your face' thing, anyway, and it lets them know that you have more talents besides nursing. I hope they hire you!

If it is what you want, good luck, and I hope it will be the perfect fit for you!
bigsyis, I live over an hour away from any decent hospital. Ultimately this might not be it but for now, yeah, it is much better than a night shift as an LPN in the nursing home.
Suesquatch,
Just wondering if there is any knew news about the job? I am still keeping my fingers crossed and wishing you the best of luck!:)
