A friend of mine gave this to me, and I'm just sharing. I am seriously considering using this resource, because I usually cannot find renewal classes these days. Believe it or not, they are temporarily not giving it at my job because the certified CPR instructor resigned. I'll need mine by January, 09.

thanks mine is due in Nov. I will have to see if they are having classes at work first, but if they don't your site will be a God's send.

there was a previous thread online cpr course, are they acceptable???, you might want to review.

personally the only on-line bls course that i would take is offered by the american heart association. the cognitive portion and test is completed on line. upon successful completion you print a course completion certificate. after completion you then need to locate an aha bls instructor to complete the skills check-off.

upon successful completion of both parts, students will be issued an american heart association bls – healthcare provider course completion card. please refer to the following link for further information bls healthcare provider online part 1.

regardless of which site you choose, please check with your facility to ensure that they will recognize the program.

thanks for the site. my cpr needs to be renewed by nov, and i am having a heck of a time finding a place to do it.

since i now work as a private duty nurse, i will have to pay 55.00+ to go to a recert class.

i am emailing my clinical director to see if this is acceptable.

http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3019553 Pagandeva200 , someone above pointed out a course should be American Heart Association. I found this one online, it is for those who have previously taken the classess and have some knowledge of cpr.

Please make sure that any course that you even consider is approved by the American Heart Association and issues a card thru them.

Any of the courses that are approved do require that you have a check-off on the didactic part by a certified instructor before you will get your card, and you may find it even more difficult to find one that can fit things into your schedule before your card expires.

Would recommend contacting the ambulance companies in your area to find out when they are offering their classes as they all offer at least BLS since their employees all need to have it. You may find that you can easily find a class that will fit in with your schedule.

Do not expect to be able to do the class 100% on the computer and have your employer accept it; just not going to happen. You also would not wish to be the patient where there was no cliinical part to you being checked off for the card.

Thank you Suzanne4,

the second I provided on my above post is the American Heart Association. There is part which can be online and the second part of it which must be done with an instructor in our own areas in person which meets the very standards you pointed out.

Check with your employer first. Mine won't accept it :sniff:

At my current hospital, this is what they do for everyone. Well, the actual AHA one. You take the test online, then go through a 15 min "prove you know where to do compressions" check-off with certified staff. Cut down a lot on the hours-long class that was required of everyone. They just emailed us our code to get online, then we scheduled our quickie checkoff when we wanted. I thought is was a decent review.

:cry:i can't use this site to renew cpr, the agency i work for has a policy that states it has to be aha or red cross.

so now i am having to free up part of a sat morning to get renewed and pay 55.00 .

one of the perks i miss about working in a hospital!

oh well, has to be done. so please all check with your employers to make sure if this is accepted or not. wouldn't want you to pay:twocents::twocents: for something you can't use.:sniff:

thanks again!

I find it funny. All who have said their employers only accept the american heart association cpr, obviously did not check out the other link which was supplied in this thread which is by the american heart association , yes you do a written test online , then you follow up with an instructor in your own area to do the hands on stuff....

My employer does accept it, in fact several of my co-workers obtained their recertification this way. I am trying to find an actual class, since our certified trainer no longer works with us. I appreciate the site that lpnflorida provided. If that can assist me better, then, that would be what I would use in case I can't find one by January. Thanks, everyone!
