Hi to all, I have a question.

I am a nursing student and had never worked as a CNA prior to beginning the program. Now that I am halfway through, and my grades are staying up there, I had decided to work at a local facility to get some non clinical time management skills, etc.

Things were going fabulous and I got along well with all of the staff, until they found out I will graduate next May. The nurses are nice to me, and take me to observe things/procedures that I'd benefit from, but the CNA's treat me like a leper. Now I get the silent treatment, which makes for a long uncomfortable shift. :o

Any ideas besides quitting? I am not very happy. I love my job, and patients, but some of the staff makes me cringe. TIA, Ivanna

I wouldn't let someone else's jealousy deter your opportunities.

Smile and repay their meanness with kindness and get the skills you got that job to get in the first place.

Oh, and if they are really nasty, just smile, gush about how much you like this unit, and that you just KNOW you're gonna stay after you get your license and how great a 'supervisor' you're gonna be over them. And how you can't wait to prove that. And say that - whether you mean it or not. But now, that's a tad passive-aggressive.

The best advice was my first advice: smile and ignore it and don't let their pettiness control your decisions.

Remember, you ARE, as you said, 'one of THEM'. And aren't you lucky!

Grow a thick skin.....quick.

Don't let jealous or mean comments ruin your day; be proud of who you are and what you are doing with your life. Trust me, you will face many challenges and very mean comments from patients, families, doctors and yes, your coworkers in your career as a nurse.

The best thing you can do is grow a nice thick skin and hang tough. Don't let the petty commentary get you down.

As someone that was/is a CNA and in nursing school I will tell you some of the reasons behind the cold shoulder now that they know you are 'one of them."

As somone that is using the job to gain clinical experence you have more passion for the job than most who are going to be staying at the same level.

Even if it is wrong they probably see you as someone that thinks they are better than them because you are going to be a nurse.

You have come into their world, they are going to help you get the clinical skills that you don't learn in nursing school (IV access), teach you the documentation system and then you are going to leave and they will have to start all over again training someone else.

They are going to have to move their schedules about (with more senority) and work hours that maybe they wouldn't have to if you were just a CNA because you can only work certain times due to school (the new person).

Are they jealous of you, probably, but I hope I have given you so other ideas aswell. Not that there is much you can do about any of them so just hold your head up and keep learning those clinical skills.

Good luck, I am sure the patients appreciate the extra care you give them as "one of them", as do the nurses to have someone that will put in the foley without complaint, etc.

That is just too funny! :lol2: It will probably work. She should also make comments like "I'll never be one of 'those' desk jockey nurses. I'll be out there helping you guys every chance I get. I know I'll be able to count on you." :lol2:

I did the whole CNA to LPN to RN thing. I was snubbed outright over and over. C'est La Vie! When I bacame a shift sup, some of the CNAs tried to get over on me. I just did my job and that was the end of that.
