Have you ever heard or said that to a family member?

whats the weirdest thing someone has brought for you or your staff to eat?

I think the sickest thing was a patient brought some balout, the duck eggs........Well its sick to me anyways.......

We had a patient overnight some white castle burgers one time.........

Honest to goodness, on night we had "pot luck", and a friend brought in some

b-b-que raccoon. I had eaten 2 self made sandwiches, then he told us. Actually it tasted very good.

I guess as long as it was FRESH roadkill, raccoon would be alright ;)..

We had a patient in on isolation for both MRSA and C-diff and the family looked dirty and you could definately smell them when they walked past the nurses station on their way to Mama's room. Mama had a birthday and they brought in a birthday cake that one of them had baked. They took it in the room. Came out about 2 hours later with 1/2 of it left and were excited to give it to us as a treat. They meant well I'm sure but oh man it went in the can the minute they got on the elevator! Yuck!

we had a potluck yesterday........A nurse brought in some chicken feet.....Everyone took a bite.....was pretty interesting

My co-charge has a family member that should open her own bakery. I usually don't eat any homemades brought in by family....the birthday cake sitting on my resident's bed for 2 hours and the remainer "shared" with the staff...ewww. Anyway, this family member is obviously clean and careful...everything served in tins and covered. She made something the other nurse called "yummy cake". All I can say is I begged her for the recipe...She calls them Cream Cheese Chocolate Brownies. Here's the recipe:

1. 1 box german chocolate cake mix

2. 1 stick butter or margarine (melted)

3. 1 egg

4. 8 oz brick of cream cheese - very softened

5. 1 box powdered sugar

6. 2 large eggs* (she says 2-3 eggs so I guess 2 large or extra large eggs will do it)

Mix the first three ingredients and press in a 9x13" pan. Combine the last three ingredients and pour over mixture in the pan. Bake at 350 for 35 - 40 minutes.

I haven't had a chance to make it myself yet...working a lot of extra hours at my new job. My youngest and I are planning some "quality time" in the kitchen tomorrow!

I have to agree with you about not eating things that have been sitting around in a resident's room, unrefrigerated, and then brought out to share with staff. My husband works in the restaurant industry, and over the years, I have become as vigilant about food safety as him. At my work yesterday, someone brought in a cheese dip. They were biting off their chips, and then dipping them into the dip. Icky!

I worked with a doctor who was famous for helping himself to whatever looked good (even in bags or tupperware containers) in the employee fridge! I used to hide my stuff when he was on call......
I HEAR you!!! One dotor I know he'd find ANY food!

Doctors--and others--who steal food, and patients who bring MRSA and C-diff infected treats. Hmm...

Just thinking.

For me, eating grits when I lived in Arkansas... uggghhh..

Oh and jellied eels when I visited London... double ugggghhhh..

I adore White Castles!
