Have you ever heard or said that to a family member?

whats the weirdest thing someone has brought for you or your staff to eat?

I think the sickest thing was a patient brought some balout, the duck eggs........Well its sick to me anyways.......

We had a patient overnight some white castle burgers one time.........

. . . . or how long a nurse can delay using the restroom? :uhoh3:

just to tell you what (pathetic) shape my bladder is in, when I was pregnant, I used to be able to work 12 hours, running my fanny off in L & D, and not pee until I went to change out of my scrubs to go home (and I worked right up until my due date, both times).........

and I tell you what, I would eat crap goulash on noodles if I had 5 minutes to eat when I was at work..........

after I was a nurse for a while, my husband asked "You guys run around all shift and never get breaks - how come there are so many overweight nurses?" I think this thread answers that question............. :chuckle :chuckle

does anyone from Canada like the burgers from Harvey's? There are none in the US - I miss it sooooo much (but maybe that's a good thing - I used to eat there way too much when I still lived at home)...... :p :p

Just had to do that last week. I am not sure what was worse the fact that it was thickened or the the sugarless fake grape cool aide. The next step is try thickened ensure!!!

I had a vegetarian co-worker once who brought a meatloaf made from Grape Nuts to a potluck. May I suggest you don't try it?

By the way, did you ever try the formulas we feed those poor innocent preemies?

No, but I bet its horrendous. It even smells nasty!

After reading all this, i feel seriously priviledged. One of the residents daughters where i work brings me Cheryl&Co. cookies and brownies all the time. When i'm having a bad day, she'll bring me grater's ice cream. Best ice cream in the world.

As far as the pumpkin seeds and soy nuts ... Have you ever tried pine nuts. YUM!

And one of my favorites, is the bland nasty little pizza's from the kitchen, smothered in ranch dressing. I've figured that is the key to all food made in any health care setting. It's now my philosophy: Just add ranch!

well i will not eat staff room goodies unless there first and in the uk we have peanuts on the bar and how you know which one washed there fingers from the bathroom????[color=?

yeah, when we were kids and would find a hair in the food my mom would say "oh, look who got the prize..."

hey, if it is baked or boiled, i figure all the germs are gone...or at least most of them. haha

I was always amazed at what my fellow night shift RNs would eat....left over from the 2 prior shifts. I guess I'm food fussy.

Sort of OT, but ruefully funny...at one hospital I worked at, days and PMs got a free meal at the cafeteria on holidays. Nights got a coupon for a dollar off. Except the cafeteria hours were 11 am to 6 pm! :rotfl:

We had a nurse that would eat everyones food.......She'd eat your half eaten food as well.....She had no limitations to what she'd eat, and didnt care whose it was, how old its been there and etc............

now i wont go that far and eat someone elses food half eaten or not but especially if its half eaten though lol... I would just like to find the time to eat a sandwich or a bag of chips lol...Anyway only been at it a month so hopefully it will get better lol

I worked with a doctor who was famous for helping himself to whatever looked good (even in bags or tupperware containers) in the employee fridge! I used to hide my stuff when he was on call......

Where I work we have but a couple of rules and they work pretty good. First of all, we all realize that the appetites of the staff are voracious so we ALWAYS take turns supplying the daily treats. In the galley kitchen, the counter top is considered "fair game" unless your name is specifically emblazened on the item. This is common knowledge and nobody complains if things disappear off of that counter. Knowing there is food available for nibbling at all times in that one location, the temptation for others to delve into others' belongings in the fridge is pretty much zero. The only caveat to this is real cream for the coffee. It has legs...did you know that?

When I worked in Home Health a patient offered me wine from a 5 liter bottle that he drank out of using what looked like an old foley catheter for a straw. I was seeing him for monthly foley cath changes. I declined politely!!!
