Nurses General Nursing

Published

I know I've seen this movie mentioned in other threads, but wanted to try to call everyone's attention to it. You may or may not agree with the movie's central message of "health care coverage for all." But the acting in this movie is superb, and Denzel Washington turns in his usual, Oscar quality performance.

But the reason for this post is the movie's portrayal of nurses. There are both male and female nurses. They are portrayed as intelligent professionals, whose role is central to patient care. They are also portrayed as compassionate, caring people, who couldn't care less about a patient's background or ability to pay. They are just there to care for the sick. It is an absolutely wonderful, as well as accurate portrayal.

I recommend this movie to all nurses. Yes, Hollywood screwed up some of the technical aspects of patient care. But the view of nurses in this movie will lift your spirits, and give you some hope that along the way, we will loose the image of simpletons, who stare in dewy eyed wonder at the physician. Somebody sees us as competent.

I was just thinking of what to rent tonight! I'll see if it's in, thanks.

We just rented it, I love it, I saw it at the movies, and watched it at home 4 times now. I never watch a movie that much! lol!

Hmmm....

John Q eh.

I'll put it on my list.

i agree! my children and i went to the theater to see the movie and all the emotions were there. denzelle did an excellent job! and the movies was a success over all. i would invite not only nurses, but all to see this splendid movie!

it's on my list too...l luv D.W......my favorite nurse hero in a movie is the ER triage nurse in the movie..Bringing Out the Dead..w/Nicholas Cage....REALLY dark humor only to be appreciated by the medical community at large...l LOVED IT...LR

Specializes in Community Health Nurse.

I too loved John Q! Excellently done.....a MUST see...IMHO. :kiss

Personally, I AM for Universal Health Care Coverage so NO ONE goes without it. No patient should be denied treatment to the max based on his/her inability to pay for said treatment. :nono:

I agreed with the movie's portrayal of how our healthcare HMO system works in this country. It SUCKS big time! :(

Saw it at the theater when it if first came out and loved it, I think I will buy it. :roll

That was a great portrayal of nurses being caring, compassionate, and patient advocates ;)

Thanks for the tip. I'm heading out to blockbuster now!
