Job Options??

I have been thinking a lot about the future lately, and I totally cannot see myself working the "normal" hours of nursing for the rest of my working career. I know it is probably fantasy thinking that there are jobs out there that involve nursing, but also have "bankers hours".....Anyone have any ideas of nursing jobs that are monday thru friday without weekends, on call, holidays, or night shifts????? There is no way I ever want to be a nurse manager or administrator.... I dont feel that I could ever fulfill my duties to staff as I would want to... staffing, wages, benefits, etc.... and as of now, I only have my ADN.

I work M - F no week-ends or holidays....salary... but I have a good boss. I also have my ADN. There are lots of jobs out there outside of the hospital arena that have better hours. Doctors offices, MD rounding nurse, clinics ....

l pretty much only hate my job at the holiday season. l had a 9-5 mon/fri job in insurance and made as good of a salary as hosp....but l hated what l was doing...that was probably the most miserabl l have ever been in a job.........LR

I hate it because I am a single mother, and my son hates my schedule.. I hate him having to sleep in someone elses bed, and not being able to give him (atleast my opinion) of a normal kid life

Baseline, what exactly do you do?

I currently work in an ambulatory surgery center - M to F , no weekends, holidays, or call. BUT, I will be going back to ICU when I move. Look for outpatient surgery or clinic settings.

is the pay as good in clinics? I would love to do that, but I hear that the pay is 3-5 dollars less per hour, plus no shift diff... I dono if I could afford it

ShandyLyynRN, you can't have your cake and eat it too. Most 9-5 MF pay a little less. (I think) Most people are willing to sacrifice the pay for the hours.

I love the night life, but I have a friend that works in recovery in a day surgery. It's a bit early in the AM, but no weekends or holidays. Radiology nurses, endo nurses, all kinds of nurses do bankers (or a little earlier than). We just lost a nurse to a doctor's office, she took a cut in pay to be with her family in the evenings.

I am lucky after 16 years on nights, on call, weekends and holidays I work out of a home office now, M-F 8a to 4pm or so. I love it.

Actually, yes, I make 6% less than the nurses who work at the hospital that we are part of. And, no shift diff. But, like 3rdShiftGuy said, can't have everything. So, for the past 5 or so years it's worked well - now I am going back to the hospital to make more $$$.

You could also look into Endoscopy centers and outpatient Endo. Hospice needs peole to do like intake and you could probably have most weekends without call but probably have to share it just depends on how many people you share with. Like 3rd shift said tho there are jobs like radiology and Dr.'s office. My wife personally loves working with the doctor in the office she is with a GI doc and they do about half and half office and endo.

I know, I know, I cant have my cake and eat it too...but that doesnt stop me from dreaming, right?:) I also live in a small town, so unless I commute an hour each way, or move, the GI centers, etc, wont work for me.
