If you could have one nursing superpower, what would it be?

I had a rough day at work today. There was a patient that started to go bad on me and I ended up calling a rapid response on her and sending her to ICU at another hospital. I found myself wishing I could literally predict the future, particularly my patients' futures, so I can stop things like this from happening.

Here's my totally off-the-wall discussion topic: If you could have one super power, one that you could only use while you're at work, which would it be and why? Just curious. Thanks!

Specializes in School nursing.

I often wish that the Staples easy button was real. So that when they are 8 students in my office (I'm a school nurse), I could push it and suddenly there would be no students and the end of school day bell would ring.

I'd be Elastigirl (from The Incredibles).

I could do everything from a chair.

I would like the ability to be in more than one place at the same time. Then I could start a blood transfusion, take an admission, and assist with a bedside bronch without having to try to explain to my supervisor how impossible my assignment is.

I would want to be able to be in two places at once.

Specializes in Rehab, Med Surg, Home Care.

My super power would be a Harry Potter based variation on the being in 2 places at the same time theme...ya know how Hermione Grainger has that gadget that lets her dial time backward so she could take 2 classes at the same time? When the day has gotten away from me yet again I could just set time backward and have an additional 3 or 4 hours to catch up. (Hopefully without another 3-4 hours nworth of new emergencies and distractions).

to be able to think my charting into the computer. I think I would like that one even better.

YES. I hate charting so much... Takes me a away from patient care.

Specializes in PACU, pre/postoperative, ortho.

I want my own special clicker (channeling Adam Sandler's character). Fast forward through least favorite tasks, mute button for mouthy pts/staff/mgmt, rewind for do-overs, pause to spend more time with favorite pts....the possibilities are endless!

Specializes in Trauma, Teaching.

huh, if I'm going to be in 2 places at the same time, I want double pay while we're at it!
