I joined the gym! How many truly exercise on a regular basis?

Hello Everyone,

I eat so much fast food coming from work on my way to school. Just always on the go. I was doing pre-reqs for the RN program but because of the wait (not enough instructors) I decided to go the LPN route. I have gained almost 60 lbs over the past year. I am so tired of seeing myself like this I decided to join the gym. My husband is a little concerned that I am trying to do to much. But I do know this as a nurse you are constantly on the move and I do not want my weight to slow me down. I weigh 249 lbs. right now and I want to lose a 100 lbs. (Even though everyone says that I will look sick if I do that) Maybe they have just gotten use to seeing me looking the way I am. I love people and am very considerate and outgoing but I do have since to know that if I do not lose weight I am asking for trouble later on in life. I am 30 years old and I never had to work out when I was younger but now I do:chuckle It is really bothering me and I was wondering if anyone else has such a hectic schedule and still find time to do at least 30-45 minutes of cardio a day? It would be encouraging to hear from other nursing students and I will keep you informed of my progress. Where some people don't eat when they are stressed I pig out.:p

I would love to hear how you all manage your hectic and busy schedules in to get some serious exercise and how you manage to eat healthy. I am on a fast right now. I am trying to change my eating habits.

Thanks for all your support and responses in advance:)

Shunda,

I too need to lose around 70+ pounds. I have a Gold's gym right down the road from me. But I don't want to go there because I feel intimidated by all of the hardcore body builders! Now that may be just that particular location..but it still kinda turns me off.

I am interested in joining Curves. It is all female, & 30 minutes of hydralic exercise machines. My sister has been going there for about 2 months and has already lost 8 inches off her hips and thighs. She looks great! You don't necessarily feel you are doing a sweaty, heart pounding workout...But you are definetly losting pounds and inches. Now that I have rambled on about Curves, I better get my butt over their sometime soon....

:D

As I mentioned, I joined Curves a year ago and really like it. It is only 30 minutes. Plus I like the idea of resistence machines for these old bones . . . . :-)

I am so glad that you said that it feels like at first you are not doing anything. Because that is how I feel. I have been going to the gym for 5 days so far and I cannot see any difference.

This is a very true and funny story.

I had been working out for several months and although I could tell that my endurance had increased and my muscle strength increased I really didn't feel like my body looked any different - toner, more muscular, leaner, etc.

Then, one day I was in the shower scrubbing myself with a wash cloth when I went over my rear end and literally said out loud "Wow, is that my a--!" I couldn't believe it, it felt like someone' elses behind, it was nice and tight and not droopy, all you ladies know what I mean.

So, just keep doin' what your doin'. You are in your body 24/7 so you aren't going to notice the slight every day changes that will take place, if you need some reinforcement ask your friends or relatives that you my only see infrequently, they will notice the difference.

That is so true and funny that is what my co-workers say that everyone else will notice it before you will. Thanks for the encouragement and the laughter I needed that.:) :)

i try and go to the gym after my evening classes for an hour i shower and put my pjs on there and drive home. if i don't have a class i try to go in the morning after breakfast. (i don't work outside the home but do have a toddler to chase) this works for me. Previously when i was in school id pack a gym bag and use the onsite facility if i had an hour between classes.

I joined Curves in May--and I REALLY enjoy it! I have been 'allergic' to exercise before this, so I'm thrilled to find something I like doing. I even took a cab to a Curves in Las Vegas when I met Brian and Karen there earlier this month! I have a travel card, and I fully intend to check out every Curves in the county @ sometime or other!

REAL women exercise there--no bimbos or men allowed!

Good luck on your program. I used to be heavy but I made a conscious choice to live better. Only eat fast food maybe 6 or 7 times a year, just to high calorie with low nutrient density.

Let us know how your doing!

:chuckle I know what you mean, this is why i quit Nautilus, it was a meat market, and a lot (not all) of the women would "remember" to wear a sport bra, or ANY bra under a tight white tshirt.

Luckily the place i go to now doesn't have that problem even if it's co-ed. We have a Curves up here but their hours aren't early enough in the morning for me.
