What's EIB?

EIB is usually extended illness bank...for longer periods of time out. How its handled depends on the facility.

Ugh, my last emplyoyer was like that. I asked that very question...what happens if you get sick during 90 days, IT HAPPENS. We are human afterall. My mngr told me that if you are sick you are sick and they make exceptions. They frowned on vacation time, but hey, if you are sick you are sick. In fact, my HR policy there stated if you have a fever or GI distress to NOT come into work. Hope things work out. Feel better!

Yes, the good ole EIB. Haven't seen that benefit since the nineties. I never used any, but converting it in the end helped boost my PTO payout check.

Jodyangel, I'm sorry this restriction on PTO is rough on you and your family. Unfortunately similar policies seem prevalent. I have to say that I have not previously heard of employers requiring one to earn 90 hours first. That seems kind of unusually harsh.

You have to accrue a certain amount of time to earn that sick time. It is the same with vacation time. I had it at my hospital when I was a pharmacy tech. It's a norm. Trust me, you'll wrack up 90 hours in no time.

I never get to accumulate PTO because I'm almost always called off atleast 1 day for low census and my PTO is used to cover it, even if I ask them not to use it and just not pay me. I have yet to have a single paycheck (in 10 months) where I wasn't compensated with some type of PTO. I'll never get a vacation.

OP, what was rude about the remarks? You originated a thread that generated interest. I liked reading it very much. That's what is great about this site. We can (within limits) talk to each other.

A year lol. That's a long time.!

I've never had an employer pay (non-medical or medical settings) for time off for calling in sick prior to the 90 day mark. At the 90 day mark all benefits were in effect (PTO, vacation time, medical/dental benefits, 401K participation etc). I don't see that what happened is uncommon, in both the non-healthcare and heath care settings.

While it may not seem fair, not too much one can do about it.

Well i understand. I am way more annoyed at the policy that you have to keep 90 hrs in your sick bank at all times. If you earn it you should be able to use it!

I definitely with you on that one. 90 hours is over 2 weeks...do they pay it out when you leave amicably (i.e. resign with proper notice). 90 hour bank seems a bit over the top...
