Hi all, got to thinking about something (amazing I can still think after nursing school). I was wondering if women who have had total hysterectomy do the pms symptoms completely disapate and are gone? Or would some women who have had a partial w/ ovary(ies) in situ still have breast tenderness, bloating and mood swings. Just one of those things I haven't heard my friends or family members who have had a complete hyst ever mentioned if the severe pms symptoms were gone,, just that it prompts rapid menopause. Not seeing much researching this one aspect of it.

I had cervical cancer in 1995, and after a High risk (total bed rest) pregnancy I decided to have a hysterectomy instead of radiation/chemo/etc...

They aspirated a small spot on my one ovary but since the test they did was cancer free the ovaries are still in place.

Although the obvious signs/symptoms of PMS are not there, I do cycle hormonally and have breast tenderness and weepy spells around what I assume is my 'time'. I sometimes cycle along with women I am around often (I always seem to synch up with them) and can guess that I am also 'on'.

I'm also curious about other's experience with this. Great question!!

My hysterectomy was 3 years ago. My ovaries are still functioning, although I'm perimenopausal now. I do still have some PMS symptoms but they seem to be significantly decreased. Mostly I notice the sleeplessness and irritability rather than anything physical. Until a few months ago I had breast tenderness, but haven't noticed it recently.

I had a TAH with BSO 11 years ago. It was the best thing I ever did. Before my hysterectomy I was a basket case when that time of the month came around, crying:cry: one minute and madder than he** :angryfirethe next. Since the hysterectomy I no longer have PMS. I sure do not miss the mood swings. I also have a friend who kept her ovaries and she still gets the PMS symptoms.

I had a partial 2 years ago leaving my left ovary. I have not had any kind of PMS. However, I just found out that I have a cyst on this ovary and it is twisted now. But I have not had any kind of PMS symptoms since the procedure and I love it considering I no longer have that monthly visit from Aunt Flo. YAY! No more kotex!!

Before my hysterectomy I was constantly sick. I had the worst cramps ever! I would sometimes end up in the ER from vomiting and dehydration. It got to where my period meant a couple of days in the hospital:uhoh3:. The hysterectomy was the best thing I have ever had done.

I also had a hysterectomy but left the ovaries a couple of years ago and like others have said, for a few days every month-around the 25th I also have breast tenderness, I turn into a bear and I want to eat everything in sight!
