    I have a custody issue that I'm dealing with so I'm unable to move our daughter out of the county. I know nursing jobs are hard to come by so i was thinking if I had to I would commute from Los angeles to san diego for work. I figure I only work 3 days a week so it can't be that bad....right?

    For housing i would either rent a cheap hotel or look into area hostiles. It owuld only be short term...maybe a year until I can work out a better custody arrangment or get my one year of experiance and move closer to home.

    Well I'm still a student, but I commute 150 miles round trip 5 days a week. Then on Saturdays, I drive another 150 miles for a mail route. I put about 1,000 miles a week on my car. Been doing this for a year and a half. It's tedious but necessary (house has been up for sale for a couple of years, but in a rural area & not selling). I have a year and a half left of school. When I find a job after graduation, I'll likely be commuting a minimum of 120 miles round trip the large city in my area. We traded in our gas guzzling suburban when I started school. I now get about 45 mpg, which is much better than the suburban which got 12-15 mpg.

    I'm a student too. I drive 75 miles round trip 3x a week. This won't change once I graduate. I am a bit of a hermit so I like living out in the country...the drive doesn't bother me.

    good god that insane...errrr dedication lol. okay so i guess my measly little 125 miles 3x a week is nothing lol.

    My commute is 60 min. 25 miles away. Traffic is TERRIBLE going in for night shift and leaving the hospital during AM rush hour.
    And its 3x a week.

    I live one mile from my office: 3 minutes by car, 15 minutes on my bike or 25 minutes if I walk. I work 4 days most weeks, 5 days the weekend I am on call.

    I was commuting from San Diego to LA several times a week and, depending on the time of day, it could easily take me 3 1/2 to 4 hours one way. Without traffic it took about 2 hours. I stayed in a hotel several nights a week so I didn't have to make that drive every day. I had to leave at 4:00 a.m. in order to miss the traffic on the way there, and wait until 8:00 p.m. to miss it on the way back. It made for some very long days. It's definitely doable, especially if it's your only option. But it's not easy.

    I drive about 80 miles round trip to work (3-4 days a week, including tonight during a massive snowstorm, yikes!) it takes me about 45 minutes to get there for my 11p shift, and in the morning I'm with all of the rush hour traffic headed into the city and it takes me about an hour and a half to get home, with the max being about two hours. It's not so bad but I have a higher tolerance for it than some I think.

    I guess I should also say that I deal with virtually zero traffic and can make it to school (75 mi one way) in 70 minutes. Speed limit is 75 over half way there so it's pretty zippy

    I'll be going the opposite direction likely for work after graduation, so I'll probably have a longer commute time with shorter distance.

    Because of where I live (in the middle of nowhere lol) I consider going anywhere in about an hour to be acceptable. Grocery stores are about 30 min, movies about 45 min, decent restaurants about 45 min and unfortunately all 4-year universities are 60 min or more. Nearest hospital is 30 min, but don't especially want to work there. I will be hoping for a large magnet hospital 60+ min from me. But doesn't everyone hope for a hospital like that
