i thought the title would get your attention! what i'm wondering is: how many of you nurses are married to doctors and do you have fullfilling marriages? not that i'm on the prowl for a doctor husband, i'm happily married to a wonderful man, i thought it would make good discussion and it seems like alot of the hospital based programs on tlc have married nurses/doctors. many of these relationships seem to be very strained due to lack of time spent together.

I dint marry a doctor but I have a fufilling marriage. I do remember one gal who became a nurse just so she could meet and marry a doctor. When she met the one she wanted , the poor guy never had a chance. But untill she met him she practiced a lot, she was something else.

a friend and co-worker of mine married a cardiac surgeon. She came into work one morning upset. we asked why, "Well," she said, " I made John breakfast yesterday morning, put the eggs, toast, bacon, fresh squeezed oj and coffee on hte table, but when I came home yesterday, it was still on the table, untouched. He was in surgery ALL SAY without anything in his stomach." Why hadn't he eaten? Because she didn't put sugar in his coffee and after he tasted it-he left the whole meal and came into work. (She worked 12 hr shifts in CCU.) That was 16 years ago, she finally divorced him, he was sleeping with a young student nurse. (Well, that's how she got him-don't know what she expected)

Not married to a doctor but am married to a teriffic man. After working with many DR's I don't think I would want one of them, too long hours, call, some a$$holes. Be careful what you wish for you might get it and not like it.

I married the son of a dr. and brother of a dr.

So that's more then enough in one family.

no my workplace is not a meatmarket (not that I haven't tried hee hee), if you're looking for a good meat market check out the chat room on friday nights LOL!

This is a topic very near to my heart. I say that because there are many docs in my family. My G'father, father, brother, as well as uncles and a cousin are docs. In my immediate family, my father never even wore his wedding ring for as long as I have known him. He always wore his class ring he got when he graduated from med school. That always bothered me. Looking back, that was a slap in my mother's face. I have seen the arrogance both from the personal side and from the professional side, and I would not even consider marrying a doc for anything at all. think about being a nurse in a family of docs so arrogant especially since they consider the family nor the wedding band to be more important than the work, the office, and the patients. The way i seeit, you can only bemarried to one. If that one happens to be his profession and not his wife, the relationship and the lives of all involved to definitely suffer. I do not know my father and he does not know me. I represent what he was engrained with in med school, a subserviant nurse. The docs in my family give me the same respect they give the nursing staff. You can figure that put for yourself. I definitely feel differently toward docs that most nurses might since I was raised amongst them, went on house calls with my father, watched him suture, etc. It was a real shock to have to start dealing with them from another completely different angle. I felt I always had to become even more subserviant, play the role. I couldn't do it either. No way at all would I want a doc! By the way, as a child, I did hear the stories re a couple of female staff and my father, but I heard it from my mother. I still believe he thinks that anything he wants and anything he does is fine regardless of who it hurts. Some docs on the floor even possess that arrogant attitude even if it is the patient that is the one to suffer. No way, no how. I want a man to be married to me, and I do not intent to share that with a profession nor a patient. TweetyRN
