Black cohosh linked to more aggressive forms of disease
WASHINGTON, June 13-Black cohosh, a herb popular for relieving the hot flashes and some other unpleasant symptoms of menopause, may make cancer more likely to spread, U.S. and Canadian researchers said.
Can anything NOT cause cancer?

I am of the firm opinion that everything everywhere that anyone does or might do or has done in the past will make headlines as "causing cancer". I tend to ignore such things until they have umpteen studies to prove it.

this reminds me of a little joke i heard a physician say many years ago:
physician: did you hear the latest news... that saliva causes cancer?
nurse: no! really?
physician: yes, but only when swallowed in small quantities over a long period of time.
:chuckle
the point he was making is that something is going to finish us all off eventually. very true.
by the way, i don't know what i'd do without my black cohosh these days and nights!!! :rotfl:
NOTHING works as far as I'm concerned!! Well, hormones work.
I've been putting up with the stinking things for years. I imagine the black cohash increase estrogen reception, hence, the higher risk for ca. Ah well, guess life could be worse.

I used "Estrovren" herbal HRT replacement substitute the first year or two when the hotflashes were pretty bad.. they had black cohosh in them, too. Worked ok.. seemed to help a little. Soy is a necessary suppl;ement as well. Never did any HRT... not going to start now, either. It's been nearly eight years, 9started at 45,46 and "premenopausal symptoms at 41-43)...so the "flashes" are gone.. still get night sweats, but I'm so used to them now, I ignore them and sleep right on...

Wow...my night sweats are wicked now...my hubby hates my large overhead fan on high every night but he tolerates it for my sake...he just wraps up in a big ol' quilt...LOL! :)
So far I haven't tried meds or herbs..maybe I'll give some a try since ya'll have said they help some. :)

I had a total hysterectomy 3 years ago. I have been on HRT since, with little problems except I too sleep with a fan blowing on me all night, summer and winter.

I thought maybe a bullet through my head might finally relieve me of the horrid hot flashes and other pesky little symptoms- like feeling so low I had to reach up to touch bottom....but, Black Cohosh worked for me and got me through the worst of it. And, like the story Tiki related: I am still swallowing small amounts of saliva- god help me.
Peace,
Lois Jean

I use natural progesterone cream and estriol cream. It helps majorly, but doesn't totally eliminate the hot flashes.

I think I've just started having menopausal symptoms because of the symptoms of sweating at night...although not profusely...just around my neck the most. I am going to turn 52 in November, so guess I'm a late starter, eh?
My mom swears she went into menopause at age 21. :chuckle
Right mom. Sure. :chuckle She sticks to her story though.
I drink Soy Milk. I can't take estrogen pills because I have too many female issues that warrant me staying away from them.
I take vitamins for women over 50, calcium, vitamin e, vitamin c, and vitamin d on the days I eat (don't always get to eat since I'm butt tired after pulling those twelve plus hour shifts three times a week).
Exercise should help.....so I hear.
Woe are menopausal women and men. Yes...men too. It's been revealed that men go through menopause too. Wonder what they will prescribe for the male folk to keep them tame? :chuckle

Anyone remember the OLD Joe Jackson song?????????
Everything gives you cancer
Every thing gives you cancer
there's no cure
there's no answer
Everything gives you cancer......
No caffeine---
No protein---
No booze--
or nicotine...
Remember
Everything gives you cancer....
I think of this song each damn time I see yet another study warning us of carcinogenic properties of virtually everything we ingest, breath, or drink! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
