Help! How do I sign my name??

Hello. I am a new RN. I have one degree a BS, and then I just got my BSN. How do I sign my name?? My hubby is buying me a scrub jacket with my name on it for Christmas and I want to make sure I have it right. :redpinkhe So would it be my name then RN, BS, BSN?? I got the BS first-- I did study the sciences with a concentration in Pre Med, so I do want to list the first BS degree as well as my nursing degree.

I'd put it exactly as you've posted. your title of RN first, then the other qualifications after.

I don't think the BS degree belongs in your nursing title. I think it should just be Nancy Nurse RN, BSN.

Actually, it should be Nancy Nurse BSN, RN because the BSN can not be taken away.

I just like "RN". Although I have a BSN.

But I agree that you should leave the BS Degree off . .. and Congratulations!!! :yeah:

Thanks for the input IlovenursingRN. As I mentioned the first BS had a concentration in Pre Med so I want to list it. That degree helped me tremendously with my BSN and I had so many medical, biology classes that I got to begin the BSN program almost at junior level. If that degree was in history, for instance, or advertising, then I agree. No I would not list it with my nursing credentials. But since it was a science degree with a concentration in Pre medicine, I am going to list it.

When I sign my name while charting I just write Elvish, RN. I have a BSN, and I'm glad, but all that matters for my charting is that I have a nursing license. Nobody where I work has degrees on their badge, which is fine by me.

Technically, though, degrees earned come before licenses.

The only thing that really matters is RN. BSN, RN is okay. I've never seen an MD or a PhD list their other degrees on anything. Just MD or PhD.

If you have a master's degree, then I might list that - MSN, RN.

Most people only want to know whether or not you are an aide, PT, RN etc.

Keep it simple!

personally, if i saw a nurse wearing a jacket with a list of her degrees i would feel like she was either showing off, or she was using credentials to prove herself.

anyone now-a-days can get a degree. before you were an rn, did you sign your name "first last, bs"? i'm guessing not... pretty silly, so why would you add it to your nursing title? you have your nursing license, and that's all you have to prove!

thus, i would sign: "first last, rn" and leave out all the other "initials"

While the BS is in premed, it is not a nursing credential. I would leave it off. My previous AAS helped me tremendously (and continues to do so) in my nursing path, but I think it would be silly to list it.
